Anastasio (" Tachito ") Somoza Debayle () ( 5 December 1925 – 17 September 1980 ) was a Nicaraguan leader and officially the 73rd and 76th President of Nicaragua from 1 May 1967 to 1 May 1972 and from 1 December 1974 to 17 July 1979.

The Somoza government ruled Nicaragua from the 1930s to the 1970s and Anastasio (" Tachito ") Somoza Debayle was the effective leader of the country in 1967.

In January 1978 National Guard overall strength peaked at about 25, 000 officers and enlisted men under the direct personal command of their Chief Director and President of Nicaragua General Anastasio Somoza Debayle ( aka ‘ Tachito ’).
