In 1981, Annie went on a cruise and left temporary manager Gordon Lewis in charge of the Rovers as she didn't have faith in Fred to run it.

When he married Eunice Nuttall in 1981, Annie offered to let them live at the Rovers while they looked for a pub of their own.
