Athanasius is counted as one of the four Great Doctors of the Church in the Roman Catholic Church as well as one of the Great Doctors of the Church in Eastern Orthodoxy, where he is also labeled the " Father of Orthodoxy ".

Athanasius went to Rome, where he was under the protection of Constans, the Emperor of the West.

The two available references from this work are recorded by his opponent Athanasius: the first is a report of Arius's teaching in Orations Against the Arians, 1: 5-6.

Fragments of his Syntagmation are preserved by Athanasius of Alexandria and Marcellus of Ancyra.

There are no records to show that Mathews Mar Athanasius was ever excommunicated.

In his Easter letter of 367, Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria, gave the earliest preserved list of exactly the books that would become the New Testament canon.

In reply, Hosius sent his courageous letter of protest against imperial interference in Church affairs ( 353 ), preserved by Athanasius which led to Hosius ' exile in 355 to Sirmium, an imperial center in Pannonia ( in modern Serbia ).
