At the First Synod of Tyre in AD 335, they brought accusations against Athanasius, bishop of Alexandria, the primary opponent of Arius ; after this, Constantine had Athanasius banished, since he considered him an impediment to reconciliation.

Constantius used his power to exile bishops adhering to the Nicene creed, especially St Athanasius of Alexandria, who fled to Rome.

It was from St. Alexander of Alexandria, Bishop of Alexandria, 312 – 328, himself an Origenist, that St Athanasius received his main instruction.

On the death of Emperor Constantine I, Athanasius was allowed to return to his See of Alexandria.

During this time, Gregory of Cappadocia was installed as the Patriarch of Alexandria, usurping the absent Athanasius.

This council confirmed the decision of the earlier Roman synod, and clearly indicated that the participants saw St Athanasius as the lawful Patriarch of Alexandria.

In 346, following the death of Gregory, Constans used his influence to allow Athanasius to return to Alexandria.

The term “ Arian ” bestowed by Athanasius upon his opponents in the Christological debate was polemical.

Antipope Felix II was installed as Pope in 355 after the Emperor Constantius II banished the reigning Pope, Liberius, for refusing to subscribe the sentence of condemnation against Saint Athanasius.

Voss, and it has since been widely accepted by modern scholars that the creed was not authored by Athanasius.

He sent for the children and, in the investigation that followed, it was discovered that one of the boys ( none other than Athanasius ) had acted the part of the bishop and in that character had actually baptized several of his companions in the course of their play.

Athanasius went to Rome, where he was under the protection of Constans, the Emperor of the West.

He called a synod in Rome in the year 341 to address the matter, and at that meeting Athanasius was found to be innocent of all the charges raised against him.

At this great gathering of prelates the case of Athanasius was taken up and once more his innocence reaffirmed.

The persecution against the orthodox party broke out with renewed vigor, and Constantius II was induced to prepare drastic measures against Athanasius and the priests who were devoted to him.

His first recorded act was, after a synod had been held at Rome, to write to Emperor Constantius II, then in quarters at Arles ( 353 – 354 ), asking that a council might be called at Aquileia with reference to the affairs of Athanasius of Alexandria, but his messenger Vincentius of Capua was compelled by the emperor at a conciliabulum held in Arles to subscribe against his will to a condemnation of the orthodox patriarch of Alexandria.

After the death of the Emperor Constantius in 361, Liberius annulled the decrees of that assembly but, with the concurrence of bishops Athanasius and Hilary of Poitiers, retained the bishops who had signed and then withdrew their adherence.

Jesuit Athanasius Kircher ( 1602 – 1680 ) witnessed eruptions of Mount Etna and Stromboli, then visited the crater of Vesuvius and published his view of an Earth with a central fire connected to numerous others caused by the burning of sulfur, bitumen and coal.

The 2004 edition of the " Roman Martyrology " succinctly states, " In Aethiopia, sancti Frumentii, episcopi, qui, primum ibi captivus, deinde, episcopus a sancto Athanasio ordinatus, Evangelium in ea regione propagavit Ethiopia, ( the feast ) of Saint Frumentius, bishop, who first was a captive there, and then, as a bishop ordained by Saint Athanasius, he spread the Gospel in that region.
