Avesta Municipality ( Avesta kommun ) is one of 290 municipalities of Sweden.

The municipality in its present size was created in 1967 when the four surrounding municipalities were joined with the then City of Avesta.

Posada borders the following municipalities: Budoni, Siniscola and Torpè.

At the county level there is a county administrative board led by a governor appointed by the central government of Sweden, as well as an elected county council that handles a separate set of issues, notably hospitals and public transportation for the municipalities within its borders.

The exceptions include, but are not limited to, the county seats of counties that have no incorporated municipalities within their borders, such as Arlington County, Virginia and Howard County, Maryland.

In 2007 the borders of the districts were slightly adjusted and 119 municipalities are now within different districts.

It shares its borders with the municipalities of Noordwijk, Teylingen, Oegstgeest, Leiden, and Wassenaar.

It borders the municipalities of Northfield, Egg Harbor Township and Somers Point.

The borough borders six neighboring municipalities: Woodcliff Lake, Upper Saddle River, Park Ridge, and River Vale in Bergen County, and Pearl River and Chestnut Ridge in Rockland County, New York.

Maple Shade borders Cinnaminson Township, Moorestown Township, Mount Laurel Township, and the Camden County municipalities of Cherry Hill Township and Pennsauken Township.
