The Church requires students of Brigham Young University ( BYU ), its private university, and tenants of BYU housing, to sign an agreement to live according to these standards of modesty.

In McMahon's senior season ( 1981 ), despite missing two games due to injuries, he passed for 3, 555 yards and 30 touchdowns in the regular season, again leading BYU to a WAC championship.

In his last game as a Cougar, McMahon passed for 342 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead BYU over Washington State in the 1981 Holiday Bowl.

He entered the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999, but is not a member of the BYU Hall of Fame because he is ten credit hours from a degree.

In the first game in the newly expanded stadium, Alabama defeated BYU 38 – 31, with Shaun Alexander scoring an Alabama single-game record five touchdowns in the win.

During his freshman season ( 1990 – 91 ), he started all 34 games for BYU, averaging 14. 8 points and 7. 7 rebounds per game.

BYU were competitive all season, with most games being close 2-1 or 3-1 decisions ( their heaviest defeat of the season was a 3-0 loss to the Hollywood United Hitmen ), but the Cougar's inability to hold onto leads proved costly: they dropped points against Lancaster Rattlers from a winning position, and conceded an injury time penalty kick in their 2-1 loss to Fresno Fuego.

Despite an impressive 3-1 win over Ogden in their final regular season game, BYU finished a distant 8th in the standings, 20 points behind divisional champs Ventura County Fusion.

Despite opening strongly with 3 wins in their first 4 games, a mid-season slump saw them drop points against the Southern California Seahorses, California Gold and BYU Cougars.

The team won just three games and scored just 21 goals all season, and eventually finished a full 29 points adrift of divisional champions BYU Cougars.

The poor form exhibited in 2006 continued in 2007 as the Surge finished the season 7th of seven, a full 30 points behind champions BYU Cougars, again with just three wins.

The season highlights included a 3-0 road victory over Wisconsin Rebels in late May, and a pair of 3-goal home victories over BYU Cougars, but results were never forthcoming, and they failed to make the playoffs, finishing fourth in the Heartland Division with a 10-7-1 record, fifteen points behind divisional champions Chicago Fire Reserves.

In his senior season, Araújo led BYU in scoring ( 18. 4 points per game ), rebounding ( 10. 1 rebounds per game ), steals ( 43 total ), and blocked shots ( 25 ).

Runners on first and second advanced without noting the infield fly call and were tagged out by BYU shortstop Andrew Law.

The runner was called out and ejected, and BYU went on to win in extra innings.

BYU realigned to the Northwest division in 2006 and, with the ' big three ' finally out of the way, the Cougars finally began to see success.

They won just one of their next six games, 2-1 over Yakima Reds, and suffered a tough 4-1 loss to newcomers Vancouver Whitecaps Residency in the middle of the stretch ; and while Tacoma, Vancouver and Yakima stretched out at the top of the division, BYU found themselves constantly playing catchup.

The luxury seating was a noticeable addition because the arrangement of blue and white seats in this section spell out BYU in block letters.

She was held back by her shyness from trying out for the 1971 women's basketball team and only learned some thirty years later that BYU had gone through the season one player short that year.

After graduating from BYU, Dew moved into the publishing business associated with the LDS church, starting out as an assistant editor at Bookcraft beginning in 1978.
