Baldassarre Cossa was born on the island of Procida or Ischia in the Kingdom of Naples into a noble but impoverished family.

Fearing his aims, the Republics of Siena and Florence and the powerful cardinal Baldassarre Cossa allied against him.

The ideal courtier — the chivalrous knight — of Baldassarre Castiglione's The Book of the Courtier became a model of the ideal virtues of nobility.

It includes also a palace, designed by Baldassarre Peruzzi, begun in 1525 by Gian Corrado Orsini and finished by his son Vicino.

Northern Europeans working there, such as Elsheimer and Brill, had made such views pre-eminent in some of their paintings ( as well as Da Vinci in his private drawings or Baldassarre Peruzzi in his decorative frescoes of vedute ); but not until Annibale Carracci and his pupil Domenichino do we see landscape become the focus of a canvas by a major Italian artist.

* The Church of Saint Dominic ( San Domenico ) was built in 1634 at the initiative of friar Pietro Flores and financially supported by local nobleman Baldassarre Dedoni.

All building and restoring works were directed by the protos: great architects such as Jacopo Sansovino and Baldassarre Longhena had this title.

Gaetano Apolline Baldassarre Vestris ( 18 April 1729 – 1808 ), French ballet dancer, was born in Florence and made his debut at the opera in 1749.

Here he heard the operas of Baldassarre Galuppi, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, and other masters ; and the desire of completing his own studies in Italy was the immediate result.

* The Venerable Giorgio Baldassarre Oppezzi, a monk who died in 1525, and whose body was later discovered to be incorrupt, is buried here in the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli.

Architects who worked on it include Cola da Caprarola, Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, Baldassarre Peruzzi, Galeazzo Alessi, Michele Sanmicheli, Vignola and Ippolito Scalza.

He was perhaps the most important figure there between Andrea Palladio, whose unfinished projects he inherited at Palladio's death in 1580, and Baldassarre Longhena, Scamozzi's only pupil.

The major Baroque architect in Venice was Baldassarre Longhena.

The structures modelled after the church include the basilica on the Holy Mountain in Glogówko, built by the Polish-Italians Jerzy Catenazzi, Jan Catenazzi and Pompeo Ferrari between 1675-1728 according to original design by Baldassarre Longhena.

In the neighbourhood are the Villa Rezzonico, designed by Baldassarre Longhena, and the 17th century Villa Bianchi-Michiel, with a garden decorated by statues.

When Michelangelo offered to take the sculpture back from Baldassarre, the latter refused, saying he would rather destroy it.

The fine campanile, standing at 57 m, was built according to plans by Baldassarre Longhena ( 1655 – 1673 ).

Baldassarre Longhena ( 1598 – February 18, 1682 ) was an Italian architect, who worked mainly in Venice, where he was one of the greatest exponents of Baroque architecture of the period.

Baldassare Ferri ( also spelled Baldassarre ) ( December 9, 1610 – September 10, 1680 ) was an Italian castrato singer.

Between 1506 – 1510, the Sienese artist and pupil of Bramante, Baldassarre Peruzzi, aided by Giuliano da Sangallo, designed and erected the villa.

Baldassarre Lanci ( 1510 – 1571 ) was an Italian architect, inventor, theatrical set designer, and master of perspective of the Renaissance period.

The design was by Baldassarre Lanci, and the construction took 19 years, being completed under Grand Duke Ferdinand I.

He was given a famous humanist tutor, Baldassarre Malosso di Casalmaggiore, nicknamed " Tranquillus ," and quickly developed a love of war and fortifications.

It was directed by Baldassarre Negroni and Gustavo Serena.

He was given the baptismal names Ferdinando Carlo Vittorio Giuseppe Maria Baldassarre.

From 1390, Montepulciano was a loyal ally ( and later possession ) of Florence and, until the mid-16th century, lived a period of splendour with architects such as Antonio da Sangallo the Elder, Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola, Baldassarre Peruzzi, Ippolito Scalza and others, building luxurious residences and other edifices here.

Her first important movie, Histoire d ' un pierrot, was under the direction of Baldassarre Negroni in 1913.

Francesco del Cossa ( c. 1430 – c. 1477 ) was an Italian early-Renaissance ( or Quattrocento ) painter of the School of Ferrara.

At this time Cossa also had some links with local robber bands, often used to intimidate his rivals and attack carriages, this part of Cossa's life isn't widely known, but gave him certain influence and power in the region.

He was one of the seven cardinals who, in May 1408, deserted Pope Gregory XII, and, with those following Antipope Benedict XIII from Avignon, convened the Council of Pisa, of which Cossa became the leader.

Alexander V died soon after, and on 25 May 1410 Cossa was consecrated pope, taking the name John XXIII.

The Medicis had supported Cossa in his campaign to become cardinal and pope.

Cossa, as he was again, was imprisoned in Germany.

In 1983 political satirist / novelist Richard Condon (" The Manchurian Candidate ") wrote " A Trembling Upon Rome ," a novel of historical fiction about the life of Baldassare Cossa.

A perfect example of these " carticellas " comes from a 1460 set known today as " Tarot de Mantegna " or " Tarot de Baldini " created by artist Francesco del Cossa.

The palazzo houses the National Picture Gallery, with a large collection of the school of Ferrara, which first rose to prominence in the latter half of the 15th century, with Cosimo Tura, Francesco Cossa and Ercole dei Roberti.

The astounding list of painters and artists includes the names of Andrea Mantegna, Vicino da Ferrara, Giovanni Bellini, Leon Battista Alberti, Pisanello, Piero della Francesca, Battista Dossi, Dosso Dossi, Cosmé Tura, Francesco del Cossa and Titian.

On 6 June 1411, Antipope John XXIII ( Baldassare Cardinal Cossa ) purported to make Hallam a cardinal, but this title was not recognized.

He in turn influenced the Ferrarese school of Cosmè Tura, Francesco del Cossa and Ercole de ' Roberti.

It was taken by Carlo Durazzo in 1382, retaken by Louis II of Anjou in 1385 and captured yet again by Ladislus of Naples in 1386 ; it was sacked by the fleet of the Antipope John XXIII under the command of Gaspare Cossa in 1410 only to be retaken by Ladislaus the following year.

In 1975, the New Orleans Opera Association staged the epic, with Marisa Galvany, Rita Shane, Susanne Marsee, Enrico Di Giuseppe, Dominic Cossa, and Paul Plishka heading the cast.

Griselda Gambaro, Copi, Roberto Cossa, Marco Denevi, Carlos Gorostiza, and Alberto Vaccarezza are a few of the more prominent Argentine playwrights.

Cossa and Louis abandoned the siege to their condottieri, and moved to northern Italy and Provence in search of further support.

In the meantime, Alexander had died, being replaced by Cossa himself as John XXIII.

An executive from Emergency Records named Sergio Cossa signed Barbosa to do production work with the record label.

In the 1339, the fiefdom, together with the Island of Ischia, was handed over to the Cossa family, of French origin, loyal followers of the Angevin dynasty then reigning in Naples.

Baldassare Cossa was elected Antipope in 1410 with the name of John XXIII.

Within the council, it is said, there were intrigues for the election of a French pope, but, through the influence of the energetic and ingenious Cardinal Cossa, on 26 June 1409, the votes were unanimously cast in the favour of Cardinal Peter Philarghi, who took the name of Pope Alexander V. The new pope announced his election to all the sovereigns of Christendom, receiving expressions of sympathy for himself and for the position of the Church.
