The Dust Brothers started working together in 1985 at the Pomona College radio station, KSPC, hosting a weekly hip-hop show, started by Simpson in 1983, called ' The Big Beat Showcase '.

In 1988, he did impressions of Prince Charles which featured on the Urban label release " Don't Believe the Hype " by acid house artist Mista E. The impressions were also used as jingles in 1988-89 on the BBC Radio 1 FM Friday night dance music show Jeff Young's Big Beat.

Known to bandmates as " Daddy Slack ," he played the piano solo on Bradley's recording of " Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar ", one of the early white boogie-woogie hits and a classic of the Big Band era.

They have signed to Atlantic Records and Big Beat / Atlantic Records released their first North American album, Soft Machine on September 12, 2006, under the shortened moniker Teddybears.

The movie featured four songs, which made it onto the band's first vinyl single first issued on Ace Records & later on Big Beat.

Diplo accentuated the club aesthetic of his Hooked on Hollerphonix music for a more reflective sound on his solo debut, Florida, which was released on the Ninja Tune imprint, Big Dada Records.

In February 2012, the group signed with Valory Music Co., an imprint of the independent record label Big Machine Records.

The full-length album In Time is scheduled to be released on Valory Records, an imprint of Big Machine Label Group, in January 2013.
