Birger Ruud ( 23 August 1911 – 13 June 1998 ) was a Norwegian ski jumper.

Based on testimony of Charlie Birger himself, the Shelton Brothers were convicted for a 1925 unsolved mail carrier robbery of $ 15, 000 and were sentenced to 25 years.

Birger Sjöberg ( December 6, 1885 – April 30, 1929 ) was a modern Swedish poet and songwriter.

Magnus, whose birth year has never been confirmed in modern times, was probably the second son of Birger Jarl ( Birger Magnuson, 1200 – 66 ) and Princess Ingeborg, herself the sister of the childless king Eric Ericson of Sweden, thus a daughter of king Eric the Survivor and his queen, Richeza of Denmark.

Magnus ordered his kinsman Thurchetel, the Lord High Constable of Sweden as the guardian of his heir, the future king Birger of Sweden, who was about ten years old at father's death.

The Norwegian government of Prime Minister Johan Nygaardsvold, with the exception of foreign minister Halvdan Koht and minister of defense Birger Ljungberg, was largely caught by surprise when it became apparent in the early hours of April 9, 1940 that Nazi Germany had launched an invasion of Norway.

The most celebrated saint of Sweden was the daughter of the knight, Birger Persson of the family of Finsta, governor and lawspeaker of Uppland, and one of the richest landowners of the country, and his wife, a member of the so-called Lawspeaker branch of the Folkunga family.

Charlie Birger was tried in Benton and found guilty of ordering the killing, a charge he steadfastly denied.

Birger was hanged in Benton on April 19, 1928, at 9: 48 a. m., in the last public hanging in Illinois.

Birger dominated bootlegging in Southern Illinois until he himself was hanged in Benton.

Haakon made a deal with Swedish leader Earl Birger in 1249 about a joint Swedish-Norwegian invasion into Halland and Scania, but the agreement was eventually abandoned by the Swedes ( see Treaty of Lödöse ).

( c. 1200 – 21 October 1266 ), or Birger Magnusson, was a Swedish statesman, Jarl of Sweden and a member of the House of Bjelbo, who played a pivotal role in the consolidation of Sweden.

Under any circumstance, he was the son of Ingrid Ylva, who according to Olaus Petri was a daughter of Sune Sik and granddaughter to Sverker the Elder, which would make Birger a matrilineal member of the House of Sverker.

He was also a nephew of the jarl Birger Brosa from the House of Bjelbo.

During the 15 years to follow, Birger then consolidated his position and was probably one of the most influential men years before being formally given the title jarl in 1248 by King Eric XI.

Birger was later claimed to have been responsible for a military campaign against the Novgorod Republic that Russians claim ended in a defeat by Alexander Nevsky during a battle the Russians refer to as Neva Battle in 1240.

This was a choice of historical importance as it was to make Birger a jarl powerful enough to ultimately wind up the office, thus making him the last Swedish jarl ever, even called as the " first true king of Sweden " by historians.

Holmger Knutsson fled to Gästrikland and was captured there by Birger in the following year.

On King Eric's death in 1250, Birger's son Valdemar was elected as the new king while Birger acted as regent, holding the true power in Sweden until his death.

It is often said to be an abbreviation of either Informationsbyrån ( The Information Office, Information Bureau ) or Insamling Birger ( Gathering Birger, after its director Birger Elmér ).

Its director Birger Elmér was reporting directly to select key persons at cabinet level, most likely defence minister Sven Andersson and Prime minister Olof Palme.

As part of a dual strategy to avoid war via deterrence and appeasement of Germany, British leaders warned that they would go to war if Germany attacked Poland while at the same time tried to avoid war by holding unofficial talks with such would be peace-makers like the British newspaper proprietor Lord Kemsley, the Swedish businessman Axel Wenner-Gren and another Swedish businessmen Birger Dahlerus who attempted to work out the basis for a peaceful return of Danzig.

Birger also led the Second Swedish Crusade, which established Swedish rule in Finland.

When the papal diplomat William of Modena visited present Sweden around 1248, he urged the Swedish kings to fulfill the rules of the Catholic Church, an exhortation which Birger seems to have taken as a chance to strengthen his position by simply taking the side of the church against other members of his family ( alternatively possible to interpret as a manifestation of his pious side ).

Presumably later that year, Birger led an expedition to Finland, later dubbed as the Second Swedish Crusade, which permanently established the Swedish rule in Finland.
