The first full-length feature produced under the BFI's new scheme was Kevin Brownlow and Andrew Mollo's Winstanley ( 1975 ), while others included Moon Over the Alley ( 1975 ), Requiem for a Village ( 1975 ), the openly avant-garde Central Bazaar ( 1973 ), Pressure ( 1975 ) and A Private Enterprise ( 1974 ) -- the last two being, respectively, the first British Black and Asian features.

Until the 1980s Black British and Asian British culture was significantly under-represented in mainstream British cinema, as they were in many areas of British life.

Some argue it has brought more flexible attitudes towards casting Black and Asian British actors, with Robbie Gee and Naomie Harris take leading roles in Underworld and 28 Days Later respectively.

Herzog also lent his voice to the animated television program The Boondocks in the third season premiere episode It's a Black President, Huey Freeman in which he played himself filming a documentary about the series ' cast of characters and their actions during the 2008 election of Barack Obama.

The American band Machines of Loving Grace took the name of a sex act performed by one of the main characters during a Black Mass for the title of their song " Rite of Shiva " on their eponymous album.

The object of the game is for players to strategically move around the game board ( a mansion ), in the guise of one of the game's six characters, collecting clues from which to deduce which suspect murdered the game's perpetual victim, Dr. Black ( Mr. Boddy in North American versions ), and with which weapon and in what room.

Both novelists encourage re-reading, because details that look insignificant foreshadow important events or characters much later in the story-line – for example Sirius Black is briefly mentioned near the beginning of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and then becomes a major character in the third to fifth books.

Eckert and other " post-Farmerian " writers ( denoting authors working with or in a similar vein as Eckert, who are admirers of Farmer's Wold Newton biographies and fiction ) have – through crossovers documented in Eckert's massive online Crossover Chronology ( published in book form by Black Coat Press in two volumes in 2010 as Crossovers: A Secret Chronology of the World ), and through parascholarly articles such as those appearing on the various WNU-themed websites online ; Myths for the Modern Age: Philip José Farmer's Wold Newton Universe ( edited by Win Scott Eckert, MonkeyBrain Books, 2005, a 2007 Locus Award finalist ) and in various issues of the pro-zine dedicated to and authorized by Farmer, Farmerphile: The Magazine of Philip José Farmer ( published by Michael Croteau, webmaster of the Official Philip José Farmer Home Page ) – brought numerous further fictional characters into the WNU.

The Black Legion series closely follows the original historical narrative with most of the characters retained.

Fictional crossover | crossover, which was the last to involve pre-Vertigo characters such as Swamp Thing, Black Orchid, Animal Man, Doom Patrol, and Shade, the Changing Man, save for The Sandman: Worlds ' End | Worlds ' End s loose connection to Zero Hour: Crisis in Time.

Gaiman had considered including characters from the " Dream Stream " ( including the Kirby Sandman, Brute, Glob, and the brothers Cain and Abel ) in a scene for the first issue of his 1988 miniseries Black Orchid.

These actors include Mark Hamill ( The Joker, Wolverine and the Watcher from Darksiders ), Michael Dorn ( various characters from World of Warcraft and Gatatog Uvenk from Mass Effect 2 ) and Claudia Black ( Chloe Frazer from the second and third entries in the Uncharted series ).

Additional characters in popular culture include " Emily " from the television series Empty Nest, " Donna ," from the television series Judging Amy, " Judy Maxwell ," from the film, What's Up, Doc ?, " Brooke ," from The L Word, Season 4, " Catherine ," the serial bride in the film noir release, Black Widow and " Helen Bishop ", the divorcee neighbor from Mad Men.

This includes characters related to Swamp Thing, The Sandman, Madame Xanadu, Black Orchid, The Books of Magic, House of Mystery, Sandman Mystery Theatre, The Haunted Tank, The Unknown Soldier, and Shade, the Changing Man.

Burns called the town “ Black Joan ” in his ballad “ Five Carlins ” in which he represented the local burghs as characters.

These meetings produced a considerable number of notable events and characters to JSA history, including Black Canary leaving to join the Justice League, the return of the Golden Age team the Seven Soldiers of Victory, the creation of the Freedom Fighters, ( which incorporated several Quality Comics characters into DC continuity after the characters were purchased by DC Comics ), and the introduction of a number of other alternative Earths to house these other teams.

Loy's silent film roles were mainly those of vamps or femme fatales, and she frequently portrayed characters of Asian or Eurasian background in films such as Across the Pacific, A Girl in Every Port, The Crimson City, The Black Watch, and The Desert Song, which she later recalled "... kind of solidified my exotic non-American image.
