Braxton Bragg ( March 22, 1817 – September 27, 1876 ) was a career United States Army officer, and then a general in the Confederate States Army — a principal commander in the Western Theater of the American Civil War and later the military adviser to Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

Bragg began his career in 1961 as a general trainee at the BBC, spending his first two years in radio at the BBC World Service, then at the BBC Third Programme and BBC Home Service.

His strategic movements then caused Bragg to abandon the critical city of Chattanooga, but Rosecrans's pursuit of Bragg ended during the bloody Battle of Chickamauga, where his unfortunately worded order mistakenly opened a gap in the Union line and Rosecrans and a third of his army were swept from the field.
