Brookhaven National Laboratory ( BNL ), is a United States national laboratory located in Upton, New York on Long Island, and was formally established in 1947 at the site of Camp Upton, a former U. S. Army base.

Brookhaven, which originally was owned by the Atomic Energy Commission, is now owned by the Commission's successor, the United States Department of Energy, which subcontracts the actual research and operation to universities and research organizations.

It is currently operated by Brookhaven Science Associates LLC, which is an equal partnership of Stony Brook University and Battelle Memorial Institute.

Its county seat is Brookhaven.

Amtrak Train 59, the southbound City of New Orleans, is scheduled to depart Hazlehurst at 11: 55 am daily with service to Brookhaven, McComb, Hammond, and New Orleans.

Brookhaven ( pronounced locally: broo-KAY-vən ) is a small city in Lincoln County, Mississippi.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Brookhaven has a total area of, of which is land and ( 0. 27 %) is water.

The City of Brookhaven is served by the Brookhaven School District.

There is also a private school, Brookhaven Academy, that serves the city.

Brookhaven is a part of the Jackson, Mississippi Television Market, including news stations WLBT, WJTV, WAPT, and WDBD.

North Hempstead is the only town on Long Island that does not have a corresponding hamlet or village in its borders with the same name ; Hempstead and Oyster Bay in Nassau County and the towns of Huntington, Babylon, Islip, Smithtown, Brookhaven, Riverhead, Southold, Southampton, Shelter Island and East Hampton in Suffolk County all have smaller subdivisions with the same name.

The Incorporated Village of Belle Terre is in the Town of Brookhaven, on the North Shore of Long Island.

The community is on the border of the Town of Riverhead and the Town of Brookhaven.

Center Moriches is in the Town of Brookhaven.

Coram is a community in the Town of Brookhaven served by the Longwood Central School District and the Middle Country Central School District.

Coram is the oldest settlement in the central part of the Town of Brookhaven.

East Moriches is in the Town of Brookhaven.

East Shoreham is located in the northern part of the Town of Brookhaven.

The boundaries of Sandy Springs are Atlanta to the south, Cobb County ( at the Chattahoochee River ) to the west and north, Roswell ( also at the river ) to the north, and Dunwoody and Brookhaven, at the DeKalb County line, to the east.

Brookhaven also was home to one of the first Shell stations in Delaware County, which converted from Texaco in 2004 ( originally opened in 1981 ).

Brookhaven is also home to the Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department located on the Brookhaven Road.

It also calculated the relationship between a helium nucleus and its two electrons and yielded results that were later experimentally confirmed by the Brookhaven National Laboratory.

The Town of Smithtown is also home to the Kings Park Central School District, a portion of the Commack Union-Free School District ( shared with the Town of Huntington ), a portion of the Hauppauge School District ( shared with the Town of Islip ) and a portion of the Sachem Central School District ( shared with the Town of Brookhaven ).

She has also been involved in anti-nuclear activities and campaigned against the restarting of the High Flux Beam Reactor ( HFBR ) located at the Brookhaven National Laboratory. In February 2007, Brinkley had emergency back surgery to correct a herniated disc that occurred after a ski trip in Aspen, Colorado in December 2006.

An article occurring generally around the time he had predicted about miniature black holes being created by CERN ( a recurring theme, also ascribed to Fermilab and Brookhaven at various times ) was taken by some to be evidence of this claim ; but these events did not occur either.

Additionally, the Directorate also operates the National Synchrotron Light Source at the Brookhaven National Laboratory and the test and training platform the ex-USS Shadwell in Alabama.

The Guinness Book Of Records listed it as the highest human-achieved temperature ( the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory has produced higher temperatures, but only within nuclear matter ; also the Large Hadron Collider has produced higher temperatures ).

The Chasman – Green lattice, also known as a double bend achromat lattice ( DBA lattice ), is a special periodic arrangement of magnets designed by Renate Chasman and George Kenneth Green of Brookhaven National Laboratory in the mid 1970s for synchrotrons.

In 1968, with the collaboration of Dr. Lewis Joel Greene, from the Brookhaven National Laboratory, U. S., he isolated several pharmacologically active peptides responsible for the activity of BPF.

In 1969, with the sponsorship of Dr. Walter Hamilton at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, Dr. Edgar Meyer ( Texas A & M University ) began to write software to store atomic coordinate files in a common format to make them available for geometric and graphical evaluation.

From 1784 to 1885, Coram served as the meeting place for the Town of Brookhaven government, using the Davis Town Meeting House for much of that period.

The Brookhaven community attracted numerous doctors and lawyers, and at the turn of the century, was a popular locale for Sunday outings amongst residents of the river tier communities.

A famous haunt of Brookhaven is Tom Jones Restaurant, which was sued by Tom Jones ( the singer ) for taking his name.

The Collection is explicitly dedicated to " documenting the material culture of screen-based game media ", and in specific relation to Higinbotham: " collecting and preserving the texts, ephemera, and artifacts that document the history and work of early game innovator and Brookhaven National Laboratory scientist William A. Higinbotham, who in 1958 invented the first interactive analog computer game, Tennis for Two.

" As part of preserving the history of Tennis for Two, the Collection is producing a documentary on the history of the game and its current reconstruction by Peter Takacs, physicist at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

While sharing an office at Brookhaven National Laboratory, in 1954, Chen Ning Yang and Mills proposed a tensor equation for what are now called Yang-Mills fields.

His new invention was ideal for use with high-energy accelerators, so Glaser traveled to Brookhaven National Laboratory with some students to study strange particles using the accelerator there.

Experimental evidence for its existence was discovered in 1964 at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
