In January 2007, a tribute album, entitled Endless Highway: The Music of The Band, was released which included contributions by My Morning Jacket, Death Cab for Cutie, Gomez, Guster, Bruce Hornsby, Jack Johnson and ALO, Lee Ann Womack, The Allman Brothers Band, Blues Traveler, Jakob Dylan, and Rosanne Cash, amongst others.

Pop music was the focus of June 7, with Paul Shaffer hosting performances by Art Garfunkel, Bruce Hornsby, k. d.

In his stead, the band used session musicians such as Irving ( who was no longer an official band member ), Snow, Steve Nieve, Bruce Hornsby and Carol Isaacs for the 1991 release Play, which came out on the Reprise label.

In 1986 Mansfield was an initial member of Bruce Hornsby and the Range, including playing the title instrument on the hit " Mandolin Rain ".

He is also a fan of several pop music artists, especially singer / songwriters including The Beatles ; James Taylor ( after whom he named the song " James " on Offramp ); Bruce Hornsby, Cheap Trick, Joni Mitchell, with whom he performed on her Shadows and Light ( 1980, Asylum / Elektra ) live tour.

It's sung by Charlie's daughter Petra Haden, with instrumental breaks from Bruce Hornsby ( piano ), Jerry Douglas ( dobro ) and Pat Metheny ( guitar ), who also wrote the arrangement in contemporary harmonies.

Mydland was replaced by Vince Welnick on synthesizers and vocals, and, for a short time, temporary fill-in Bruce Hornsby on grand piano and accordion.

Johnny Cash and the Carter Family, Emmylou Harris, and Ricky Skaggs joined the sessions, as did John Prine, Levon Helm, John Denver, John Hiatt, Bruce Hornsby, and former Byrds Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman.

Equipment during these years had also improved ; new Marshall amplifier stacks cranked out more power, and Jack Bruce pushed the volume levels higher, creating tension for Baker who would have trouble competing with roaring stacks.

In an interview with Jack Bruce in the December 2005 issue of Bass Player magazine, Bruce hinted that he would like to see Cream continue in one way or another, possibly in the form of a new album, but that a tour was out of the question: " It would be quite a challenge to try to create music that would stand up to the classic songs.

These comments were far more specific and explosive than Clapton's, as they were centred around his relationship with Jack Bruce.

Jack Bruce told Detroit's WCSX radio station in May 2007 that there were plans for a Cream reunion later in the year.

The band decided against it and this was confirmed by Bruce in a letter to the editor of the Jack Bruce fanzine, The Cuicoland Express dated 26 September 2007:
