The Gibraltar Bus Company runs routes 1 to 4 exclusively, with its distinctive modern fleet of blue-liveried Dennis Dart buses.

Bus Átha Cliath ( Dublin Bus ), a sister company of Bus Éireann, provides most of the bus services in Dublin, with some other operators providing a number of routes.

Some private rural operators exist, such as Halpenny's in Blackrock, County Louth, which was the first private bus operator to run a public service in Ireland, Bus Feda ( Feda O ' Donnell Coaches ), which operates twice daily routes from Ranafast, County Donegal to Galway and back, and Lough Swilly Bus Company.

There is a comprehensive bus network, operated by Bus Vannin, a department of the Isle of Man Government, with most routes originating or terminating in Douglas.

Bus service routes radiate from the Liberation Station in St Helier.

The city's public bus service ( Milli Bus / " National Bus ") was established in the 1960s to take commuters on daily routes to many destinations.

Bus fares are low and the standard of comfort, particularly on international routes is good, with air-conditioned vehicles and good service.

* Metropolitan Bus Authority ( Autoridad Metropolitana de Autobuses or AMA in Spanish ) provides daily bus transportation to residents of San Juan, Guaynabo, Bayamón, Trujillo Alto, Cataño, and Carolina through 30 different routes.

Bus routes 65 and 391 stop close to the gardens ; routes 237 and 267 stop at Kew Bridge station.

Finglas is served by a number of Dublin Bus routes.

Four Bus Éireann routes also pass through Finglas along the main Finglas Road, including the 103 from Duleek to UCD and the 107 from Navan to Busáras.

A bus Benalla Bus Lines, runs a service every hour on each of two routes, servicing the west and east sides of the city.

NJ Transit also provides bus service on the 113 and 114 to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan ; the 59, 65 and 66 ( Limited ) to Newark ; and local service on the 822 and 819 routes.

Bus services cover all metropolitan areas and many rural communities, with services on most major routes running half-hourly or more frequently during peak travel times.

Bus routes also serve Girona Airport and Portugal via Lleida.

In 2006, the Go North East Bus Company branded one of their routes " The Magic Roundabout ", the buses running on it all featuring the characters from the series.

Bus routes in some areas are operated by smaller carriers, the largest being the Dan Bus Company, operating routes in Gush Dan.

Service to the Port Authority Bus Terminal is available on Line 100 from Princeton and on Line 400 from the Transportation Center, to 59th Street and Madison Avenue on Line 300, to the United Nations on Line 500 and to Wall Street on Line 600.

Most temporary rail replacement buses are numbered in the 600 series ( for example, the Green Line Bus Shuttle is 602. 2 ), and supplemental services get 700-series numbers.

* 1975 – Bus massacre in Lebanon: An attack by the Phalangist resistance kills 26 militia members of the P. F. L.

* 1955 – American Civil Rights Movement: In Montgomery, Alabama, seamstress Rosa Parks refuses to give up her bus seat to a white man and is arrested for violating the city's racial segregation laws, an incident which leads to the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Cross-border services ( e. g. Dublin city centre to Belfast ) are run primarily by a partnership of Ulsterbus and Bus Éireann with some services run across the border exclusively by one of the two companies ( e. g. Derry – Sligo run by Bus Éireann ).

* 2000 – Sandro Rosa do Nascimento takes hostages while robbing Bus # 174 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil ; the highly-publicized standoff becomes a media circus and ends with the death of do Nascimento and a hostage.

* 2003 – A Neoplan bus, owned by Kowloon Motor Bus, collides with a truck, falls off a bridge on Tuen Mun Road, Hong Kong, and plunges into the underlying valley, killing 21 people.

* 1956 – American civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr .' s home is bombed in retaliation for the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

* 1971 – Chris Willsher, English singer-songwriter and musician ( Bus Station Loonies, Oi Polloi and Disorder )

* 1989 – The Israeli 405 Bus slaughter in which 14 bus passengers are killed when an Arab assaulted the bus driver as the bus is driving by the edge of a cliff.

* 1956 – The United States Supreme Court declares Alabama laws requiring segregated buses illegal, thus ending the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Car taxis are not allowed to utilise the Priority Bus Route, however, and as such maxi-taxis and buses are preferable for speedily entering and exiting the cities ( especially Port of Spain ) during rush hour ( 7am – 9am and 4pm – 6pm ).

The A3 Bus Corridor priority route ( constructed between 2003 – 2007 ) serves the town.

* May 14 – Bus collision near Carrollton, Kentucky: A drunk driver going the wrong way on Interstate 71, hits a converted school bus carrying a church youth group from Radcliff, Kentucky.

* November 13 – The United States Supreme Court declares Alabama and Montgomery, Alabama laws requiring segregated buses illegal, thus ending the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

* October 26 – Bus deregulation goes into effect in the United Kingdom, except Greater London and Northern Ireland.

Forms of protest and / or civil disobedience included boycotts such as the successful Montgomery Bus Boycott ( 1955 – 1956 ) in Alabama ; " sit-ins " such as the influential Greensboro sit-ins ( 1960 ) in North Carolina ; marches, such as the Selma to Montgomery marches ( 1965 ) in Alabama ; and a wide range of other nonviolent activities.
