Brazilian singer-songwriter Caetano Veloso

Two performers, Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso became two of the most famous people in all of Brazil through their work in Tropicalismo.

This soon evolved into the politically charged Tropicalia genre, which starred controversial and acclaimed singer-songwriters Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil.

He was a key figure in the Música Popular Brasileira and tropicália movements of the 1960s, alongside artists such as longtime collaborator Caetano Veloso.

Gil met guitarist and singer Caetano Veloso at the Universidade Federal da Bahia ( Federal University of Bahia ) in 1963.

As one of the pioneers of tropicália, influences from genres such as rock and punk have been pervasive in his recordings, as they have been in those of other stars of the period, including Caetano Veloso and Tom Zé.

However, Gil says that his 1994 album Acoustic was not such a new direction, as he had previously performed unplugged with Caetano Veloso.

Graduated as a Licentiate and later a Doctorate in Law, Caetano was a Cathedratic Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, where he graduated and of which he would also become the 9th Dean or Rector.

When, on April 25, 1974, the " Carnation Revolution " deposed Caetano, Tomás was also overthrown and sent to exile in Brazil.

In 1984 he played with Luís Caldas's band Acordes Verdes, one of the originators of samba-reggae, and in 1985 he formed part of Caetano Veloso's band on the record Estrangeiro, penning a song, " Meia Lua Inteira ", that was very successful in Brazil and outside the country.

The popular Brazilian singer Caetano Veloso made famous the Trio Elétrico in the song, Atrás do Trio Elétrico só não vai quem já morreu-" Only the dead do not go after the Trio Elétrico ".

In the late 70s, Lee was mentioned in the Caetano Veloso song Sampa.

Other well-known singers of " Jamaica Farewell " include Sir Lancelot, Jimmy Buffett, Sam Cooke, Nina & Frederik, Pat Rolle, Carly Simon, Nuttea, Caetano Veloso and Sting who covered the song while playing a melody of his own " Can't Stand Losing You / Reggatta de Blanc " while still with The Police in 1983.
