This relationship perhaps explains the presence of Campbells in the same regiments as Leslie in Sweden, most notably Captain Charles Campbell ( Karl Kammel ), whose portrait hangs to this day in Skokloster Castle in Sweden.

The ancestral seat of this branch of the Campbell family is Cawdor Castle in Nairnshire.

Descendants of Archibald Campbell, 1st Duke of Argyll sold the castle in 1801, to MacQuarrie, who then sold it to Carter-Campbell of Possil who kept it as a ruin within the grounds of his own estate to the north, Torosay Castle.

In 1825 Campbell applied for and received his grant, naming it ' Duntroon ' after the family castle, Duntrune Castle on Loch Crinan in Argyll, Scotland.
