In a poll of sports fans conducted by ABC Sports, Thorpe was voted the Greatest Athlete of the Twentieth Century out of 15 other athletes including Muhammad Ali, Babe Ruth, Jesse Owens, Wayne Gretzky, Jack Nicklaus, and Michael Jordan.

The global center of the entertainment business, Southern California leads the world in the motion picture, television, and recorded music industry and is the home base for Hollywood, The Walt Disney Company, ABC, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Universal Studios, MGM, Paramount Pictures, and 20th Century Fox, corporations such as Fox Sports Net, Guess, In-n-Out Burger, ARCO, Farmers, logistics, and many financial and banking companies.

NBC televised the Army – Navy Game in 1945, hailed by sports writers at the time as “ The Game of the Century .” In 1946, the Cavalcade of Sports, a primetime boxing program, debuted.

Such teams could be selected to play in a match against an opposing team, to represent a football club, group, state or nation, an All-star team or even selected as a hypothetical team ( such as a Dream Team or Team of the Century ) and never play an actual match.

However, leg spin has again become popular with cricket fans and a successful part of cricket teams, driven largely by the success of Shane Warne, beginning with his spectacular Ball of the Century to Mike Gatting in 1993.

The 19th Century Cornish rower Ann Glanville achieved national celebrity ; her all-women crew often winning against the best male teams.

The history between the two clubs was formally honored on June 6th, 2012 via a " Turn Back The Century " game that sported 1912 replica uniforms worn by both teams.

On January 20, 1968, TVS put together the " Game of the Century " ( see below ) between the UCLA Bruins and Houston Cougars basketball teams at the Houston Astrodome.

The " Turn Ahead The Clock " promotion was so successful that it was copied the next year by 20 MLB teams, this time representing the year 2021 ( due to sponsorship by the real estate company Century 21 ), however the jerseys were roundly ridiculed and have not been seen since.

Niagara's athletic teams have fared well in the 21st Century.

During the first half of the 20th Century, Labatt Park ( Tecumseh Park until December 31, 1936 ) was regularly visited by numerous barnstorming Negro teams from the U. S., plus a much-celebrated visit by legendary African-American pitcher Satchel Paige on June 30, 1954, when Paige was barnstorming with a baseball version of the Harlem Globetrotters.

After expanding to enfranchise the New Orleans Saints in, the NFL split its 16 teams into two conferences with two divisions each: the Capitol and Century Divisions in the Eastern Conference, and the Coastal and Central Divisions in the Western Conference.

In the 21st Century it has been home to the cricket teams, the South Australian Redbacks and the Adelaide Strikers.

League annals show Hamilton teams have won fifteenth Grey Cups ( 8 in the modern era ), and they are the only team in North American professional sports history to win a championship in every decade of the 20th Century!

The NFL sub-divided its two conferences ( now eight teams each ) into two divisions of four teams each: The Capitol and Century divisions in the Eastern conference, and the Central and Coastal divisions in the Western conference.

It was hyped as " The Game of the Century " because both teams were undefeated, untied and ranked atop the national polls entering the contest ( Notre Dame was # 1 at 8 – 0 – 0, Michigan State # 2 at 9 – 0 – 0 ).

It does not include players for earlier Baltimore Oriole teams: the American Association and National League team of the 19th Century ; the American League team of 1901 -' 02 ( now the New York Yankees ); the Eastern and International leagues team ; the St. Louis Browns ( 1902-1953 ), or the minor league Orioles of the 20th Century.

In the 19th Century, the MCC established a cricket pitch on the Common, which is used by Chorleywood Cricket Club's senior and junior teams to this day.

By the late 20th Century, scientific research has become a large-scale effort, largely accomplished in institutional teams.

In 2001 as part of the 200th anniversary celebration of Minor League Baseball, Bill Weiss and Marshall Write, two veteran chroniclers of minor league teams, researched and rated the best Minor League teams of the Twentieth Century.

It became the AFC Central in 1970 following the completion of the AFL-NFL merger when two of the NFL Century teams — the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers — moved from the " old " NFL to join the former American Football League teams in the AFC, in order to give the AFC an even number of teams.

During the 1960s, the NFL labeled all of its divisions with the first letter " C "; each division's name also contained seven letters ; the Capitol Division centered on Washington, DC, the Central Division in the upper Midwest, the Coastal Division having two teams on each coast, and the Century Division having teams from various geographical areas: Cleveland was in the Midwest and Great Lakes, Pittsburgh in the Appalachians, New Orleans in the Deep South, St. Louis in the Great Plains ( also part of the Midwest ) and New York City was on the East Coast.
