The Alutiiq language is relatively close to that spoken by the Yupik in the Bethel, Alaska area, but is considered a distinct language with two major dialects: the Koniag dialect, spoken on the Alaska Peninsula and on Kodiak Island, and the Chugach dialect, is spoken on the southern Kenai Peninsula and in Prince William Sound.

Lake Louise is located between four mountain ranges: The Wrangell, Talkeetna, Chugach and Alaska Ranges.

Chugach () or Chugachigmiut is the name of an Alaska Native culture and group of people in the region of the Kenai Peninsula and Prince William Sound.

The Chugach Mountains of southern Alaska are the northernmost of the several mountain ranges that make up the Pacific Coast Ranges of the western edge of North America.

The Wrangell Mountains are just to the northwest of the Saint Elias Mountains and northeast of the Chugach Mountains, which are along the coast of the Gulf of Alaska.

Its headwaters are at Matanuska Glacier in the northern Chugach Mountains, approximately 100 miles ( 160 km ) northeast of Anchorage.

The borough contains part of the protected areas of Chugach National Forest, Glacier Bay National Park, Glacier Bay Wilderness, Tongass National Forest, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, Wrangell-Saint Elias Wilderness and the Russell Fjord Wilderness.

The Air Force base was closed in 1993, and is kept in caretaker status by Anchorage-based Chugach Support Services.

Electricity is provided by Chugach Electric Association.

Surrounded by the Chugach National Forest, it is located 100 miles south of Anchorage, and 30 miles north of Seward on the Seward Highway along Upper Trail Lake.

Located in Prince William Sound, the CDP consists of the Chugach Alutiiq village of Chenega Bay, which was established only after the Good Friday Earthquake destroyed the original community on Chenega Island to the north.
