Leslie Newbiggin reflects the dominant position within the World Council of Churches when he says, `` We must claim absoluteness and finality for Christ and His finished work, but that very claim forbids us to claim absoluteness and finality for our understanding of it ''.

Present-day Christian religious bodies known for conducting their worship services without musical accompaniment include some Presbyterian churches devoted to the regulative principle of worship, Old Regular Baptists, Primitive Baptists, Plymouth Brethren, Churches of Christ, the Old German Baptist Brethren, the Eastern Orthodox Christian Church and the Amish, Old Order Mennonites and Conservative Mennonites.

The Baptists have been non-creedal “ in that they have not sought to establish binding authoritative confessions of faith on one another .” Also rejecting creeds are groups with roots in the Restoration Movement, such as the Christian Church ( Disciples of Christ ), the Evangelical Christian Church in Canada and the Churches of Christ.

The Chalcedonian Creed, developed at the Council of Chalcedon in 451, though rejected by the Oriental Orthodox Churches, taught Christ " to be acknowledged in two natures, inconfusedly, unchangeably, indivisibly, inseparably ": one divine and one human, and that both natures are perfect but are nevertheless perfectly united into one person.

Others, including the Christian Church ( Disciples of Christ ), Evangelical Christian Church in Canada, Churches of Christ, and the Christian churches and churches of Christ, have their roots in the contemporaneous Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement, which was centered in Kentucky and Tennessee.

The United Church of Christ ( UCC ) is the result of a union constructed according to congregationalist theory between the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Churches.

The General Council of Congregational Christian Churches was formed from a merger between the National Council of Congregational Churches and the General Convention of the Christian Church, also known as Christian Churches or Christian Connection ( not to be confused with, although partially related to, the Disciples of Christ ).

Churches of Christ purposefully have no central headquarters, councils, or other organizational structure above the local church level.

Rather, the independent congregations are a network with each congregation participating at its own discretion in various means of service and fellowship with other congregations ( see Sponsoring church ( Churches of Christ )).

Churches of Christ are linked by their shared commitment to restoration principles.

While the early Restoration Movement had a tradition of itinerant preachers rather than " located Preachers ", during the 20th century a long-term, formally-trained congregational minister became the norm among Churches of Christ.

Churches of Christ hold to the priesthood of all believers.

Similar reservations about the use of creeds can be found in the Restoration Movement and its descendants, the Christian Church ( Disciples of Christ ), the Churches of Christ, and the Christian churches and churches of Christ.

Several Pentecostal and non-denominational Churches, which emphasize the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit, in turn grew out of the Methodist Church.

Churches and denominations may vary in which metaphor or explanation they consider most accurately fits into their theological perspective ; however all Christians emphasize that Jesus is the Saviour of the world and through his death the sins of mankind have been forgiven.

Usual titles are Your Holiness for a patriarch ( with Your All-Holiness for the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople ), Your Beatitude for an archbishop in charge of an autocephalous church, Your Eminence for an archbishop, Master or Your Grace for a bishop and Father for priests, deacons and monks though there are variations between the various Orthodox Churches.

For example, in many Orthodox Churches in Europe, there has grown a custom of blessing pussiwillows on Palm Sunday instead of palm branches, since palms do not grow that far north.

Importantly, the existence of full communion, as thus understood, does not presume that there is no difference in rites or in doctrine between the two Churches, but rather that these differences do not touch on points defined as essential.
