There is a Washington Metro station in the southern part of Cheverly, on Columbia Park Road.

Commercial service is available 33 miles to the south in Columbia at the Columbia Regional Airport or the MO-X ( an airport shuttle to and from STL and MCI ), 60 miles to the south in Jefferson City via the Amtrak station, 45 miles to the north in La Plata via the Amtrak station, or 55 miles to the North in Kirksville at the Kirksville Regional Airport.

The Village of Millbrook, as it is known today, was developed around the Dutchess and Columbia railroad train station which was located on the village green.

Very limited public transit service provided by the Columbia County Rider ( or CC Rider ), a service of the county's Transit Division, connects Vernonia with the Willow Creek MAX ( light rail ) station and bus transit center of TriMet, in Hillsboro.

Between 1963 and 1970, Southern abandoned its tracks between Furman and Hardeeville leaving Furman as the ending station from Columbia.

While the closest Metrorail station is a few miles away, Metrobus service on the Columbia Pike corridor has recently been improved.

Also during the 1920s, an old-time music band known as the Hill Billies featuring Al Hopkins and Fiddlin ' Charlie Bowman, achieved acclaim as recording artists for Columbia Records.

* Grissom Hill is 7. 5 km ( 4. 7 mi ) southwest of Columbia Memorial Station on Mars and is one of the Apollo 1 Hills.

* White Hill, 11. 2 km ( 7. 0 mi ) northwest of Columbia Memorial Station on Mars, is a part of the Apollo 1 Hills.

* Chaffee Hill, 14. 3 km ( 8. 9 mi ) south-southwest of Columbia Memorial Station on Mars, part of the Apollo 1 Hills.

Joe Hill wrote the song " Where the Fraser River Flows " during this period when the IWW was organizing in British Columbia.

Along with Symphony Woods, many other stands of mature trees have been maintained in Columbia, including the large Middle Patuxent Environmental Area in the western part of the city between Harper's Choice and River Hill villages, protecting much of the river valley from development.

During the 1950s, the Clark Hill Dam was constructed, submerging considerable land in northern Columbia County under the new reservoir.

* Ward Hill Lamon ( 1826 – 1893 ), friend, law partner and frequent bodyguard of President Abraham Lincoln, who appointed him U. S. Marshal for the District of Columbia.

In 1959, he wrote the country and western song " The Ballad of Boot Hill " for Johnny Cash who released the song as part of an EP on Columbia Records.

Columbia had five cemeteries, including a Boot Hill, where burials were made without markers.

The National Park Service manages most of the city's parkland, including Rock Creek Park, the C & O Canal National Historical Park, the National Mall and Constitution Gardens, Theodore Roosevelt Island, Columbia Island, Fort Dupont Park, Meridian Hill Park, Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens, and Anacostia Park.

Columbia Heights Baptist Church off Highway 165 calls itself " The Lighthouse on the Hill "; pastor James Prince ( 2011 ).

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ( J. D., 1962 ), Chambers served as editor-in-chief of the school's Law Review and went on to earn his master of law degree from Columbia University in 1964.

Biggs Junction is located on the south side of the Columbia River at the junction of Interstate 84 / U. S. 30 and U. S. 97 where it crosses the Sam Hill Memorial Bridge over the river from Washington.

Rock Hill is located approximately south of Charlotte and approximately north of Columbia.

* The film Daltry Calhoun, starring Johnny Knoxville, was filmed in Columbia and Spring Hill in 2004.

Basin Hill extends about 5 – 6 miles southwest of town to the Columbia River, where it forms the southern extent of the " White Bluffs " for which the town of White Bluffs was named.
