At age 24, Fermi took a professorship at the University of Rome ( one of the first three in theoretical physics in Italy ) which he won in a competition whose selection committee was chaired by Professor Orso Mario Corbino, director of the Institute of Physics.

His colleagues included Oscar D ' Agostino, Emilio Segrè, Edoardo Amaldi, Ettore Majorana and Enrico Fermi, as well as the director Orso Mario Corbino.

Corbino recognized the qualities of Enrico Fermi and led the commission who appointed him in 1926 as professor of one of the three first Chairs of Theoretical Physics in Italy.

From 1929, Fermi and Corbino dedicated themselves to the transformation of the institute into a modern research centre.

Of his 1980 performance in John O ' Keefe's All Night Long, Sarasota Herald-Tribune art reviewer Marcia Corbino wrote that Grodénchik was an intriguing actor who had " an enchanting, mobile comic face on which aberrant emotions flicker, spread, retreat, retrench and explode with a single instant.

Initial interest in this problem began with Boltzmann in 1886, and independently was re-examined by Corbino in 1911.

The Corbino effect is a phenomenon involving the Hall effect, but a disc-shaped metal sample is used in place of a rectangular one.

Because of its shape the Corbino disc allows the observation of Hall effect – based magnetoresistance without the associated Hall voltage.

The absence of the free transverse boundaries renders the interpretation of the Corbino effect simpler than that of the Hall effect.
