Merlin-and a Pattern-ghost of Luke-are both adopted by Corwin's Pattern ( which has previously rejected Fiona ), at the instance of a Pattern-ghost of Corwin himself, as it appears that his own Pattern is also sentient and resisting incursions from both the Logrus and Amber's Pattern-and taking a hand in the conflict between the two.
