Radio stations available in the county include: Cork's 96FM and dual-franchise C103 ( formerly 103FM County Sound ), CRY 104. 0FM, Red FM, and Life FM.

The county's location puts New York City and Long Island Sound to its south, Putnam County on the north, Connecticut on the east, Rockland County on the west.

It is bordered on the west side by the Hudson River and on the east side by Long Island Sound and Fairfield County, Connecticut.

The uses of these islands vary: Davids ' Island, the former location of the U. S. Army ’ s Fort Slocum, is currently unoccupied but is slated for use as passive parkland ; Glen Island is a County park for passive and active recreation ; Huckleberry Island is largely undeveloped and has one of the largest rookeries for some shore bird species in western Long Island Sound ; Columbia Island was the former site of CBS television broadcast antennas and is currently unoccupied ; Echo Island is used by a private yacht club ; Execution Rocks is the site of a 19th century lighthouse listed on the National Register of Historic Places ; Pea Island is owned by Huguenot Yacht Club but remains undeveloped ; Goose Island is undeveloped ; Clifford, Harrison and Tank Islands are part of a nature preserve and city park ; and Oak and Pine Islands are used as private residences.

The County is divided into six primary drainage basins or watersheds, which are the Lower Long Island Sound, Upper Long Island Sound, Bronx River, Upper Hudson River, Lower Hudson River and Croton River basins.

Like most of Oregon and Washington south of Puget Sound into the Willamette Valley the landscape and climate of Clark County are determined by its placement between the volcanic Pacific Coast and Cascade Ranges, where glaciation helped form a U-shaped valley which meets the river valley of the Columbia River as it leaves the Columbia River Gorge.

It is located in New Haven County, on New Haven Harbor, on the northern shore of Long Island Sound.

Snohomish County is bordered on the west by Puget Sound, except near Stanwood, where Davis Slough is the border between it and Camano Island, which is part of Island County.

Kitsap County is connected to the eastern shore of Puget Sound by Washington State Ferries routes, including the Seattle-Bremerton Ferry, Southworth to West Seattle via Vashon Island, Bainbridge Island to Downtown Seattle, and from Kingston to Edmonds, Washington.

Cowlitz County is part of the Puget Sound – Willamette Depression, a geologic formation extending south from the Puget Sound to the Willamette Valley in Oregon.

Because it includes much of Pamlico Sound, Dare County is the largest county in North Carolina by total area.

" It is in the northeastern section of the State and is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Currituck Sound, Camden County, Dare County and the state of Virginia.

Currituck County includes the northern communities of North Carolina's Outer Banks, separated from mainland Currituck County by the Currituck Sound.

Ann Arbor became the seat of Washtenaw County in 1827, and was incorporated as a village in 1833.

Portions of the lands of the former County of Baden now became the District of Baden in the newly created Canton of Aargau.

Founded as a Roman city, Barcelona became the capital of the County of Barcelona.

In 2008 however Barack Obama became the first Democrat since 1964 to win Ormsby County / Carson City, defeating John McCain 49 % to 48 %, by 204 votes, a margin of under 1 %.

In 1863 the legislature's forcing of City and County action became known as the " Dutch Flat Swindle ".

So it was that New Castle lawyer Thomas McKean denounced the Stamp Act in the strongest terms, and Kent County native John Dickinson became the " Penman of the Revolution.

It became the county seat of Norfolk County.

" A group of eight young birdwatchers from The Bronx later became the Bronx County Bird Club, led by Ludlow Griscom.

On the day Mountbatten was assassinated the IRA ambushed and killed eighteen British Army soldiers, sixteen of them from the Parachute Regiment at Warrenpoint, County Down, in what became known as the Warrenpoint ambush.

Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, who later became known as Frederick Douglass, was born a slave in Talbot County, Maryland, between Hillsboro and Cordova, probably in his grandmother's shack east of Tappers Corner () and west of Tuckahoe Creek.
