Crowded House are referred to as The Crowdies by Australian fans.

Originally active from 1985 to 1996, the band have had consistent commercial and critical success in Australia and New Zealand and international chart success in two phases, beginning with their self-titled debut album, Crowded House, which reached number twelve on the US Album Chart in 1987 and provided the Top Ten hits, " Don't Dream It's Over " and " Something So Strong ".

Neil is the younger brother of Split Enz founding member Tim Finn, who joined Crowded House in 1990 on vocals, guitars and keyboards for the album Woodface.

At Capitol's behest, the band's name was changed to Crowded House, which alluded to the lack of space at the West Hollywood apartment they shared during the recording of the album Crowded House.

They began by playing at festivals in Australia and New Zealand and released their debut album, Crowded House, in June 1986.

Crowded House undertook a short tour of Australia and Canada to promote the album, with Eddie Rayner on keyboards.

Crowded House took a break after the Canadian leg of the Temple of Low Men tour.

Following the recording sessions with Tim, Neil began writing and recording a third Crowded House album with Hester and Seymour, but these tracks were rejected by the record company, so Neil asked Tim if Crowded House could use the Finn songs.

Tim left Crowded House during the Woodface tour in November 1991, part-way through the UK leg.

For their fourth album, Together Alone, Crowded House used New Zealand-based producer Martin Glover ( aka Youth ) and invited touring musician Mark Hart ( guitar & keyboards ) to become a permanent band member.

Crowded House were mid way through a US tour when Paul Hester quit the band on 15 April 1994.

In June 1996, at a press conference to announce the release of their greatest hits album Recurring Dream, Neil revealed that Crowded House were to disband.

He formed the band Largest Living Things, which was the name rejected by Capitol Records in favour of Crowded House.

Other songs performed by Amos include The Doors ' " People are Strange ", Depeche Mode's " Personal Jesus ", Joni Mitchell's " The Circle Game ", Madonna's " Live to Tell " and " Like a Prayer ", Björk's " Hyperballad ", Led Zeppelin's " When the Levee Breaks " ( which she debuted in Austin, Texas, just after the events of Hurricane Katrina ), Kate Bush's " And Dream of Sheep " and Crowded House's " Don't Dream It's Over ", dedicating it to drummer Paul Hester who had died a week before.

Some bands, such as the Tindersticks, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Crowded House, Van Halen, Duran Duran, Bang Camaro, Santana, Living in a Box, and the Ramones, have released more than one and are thus referred to in other ways, including number and album art ( e. g., The Blue Album ).

Other records by Crowded House with Hester are: Temple of Low Men ( 1988 ), Woodface ( 1991 ), Together Alone ( 1993 ), and the Best-of collection Recurring Dream ( 1996 ).

The Times reported on August 22, 1916 that " Crowded audiences ... were interested and thrilled to have the realities of war brought so vividly before them, and if women had sometimes to shut their eyes to escape for a moment from the tragedy of the toll of battle which the film presents, opinion seems to be general that it was wise that the people at home should have this glimpse of what our soldiers are doing and daring and suffering in Picardy ".

The town's best known residents are the Finn brothers, Tim and Neil, whose musical careers have stretched from Split Enz through the internationally successful Crowded House to their current solo and collaborative works.

Hester later became involved in a new band called Largest Living Things ( 1997 – 2000 ), with Kevin Garant on guitar and Barry Stockley on bass, performing with members of rock groups Crowded House, Split Enz, Midnight Oil, and others.

The Lonesome Crowded West gained the band a cult following, and is now popularly considered to be one of the defining albums of mid-1990s indie rock.

His musical career includes forming 1970s and 1980s New Zealand rock group Split Enz, a number of solo albums, temporary membership in his brother Neil's band Crowded House and his joint efforts with Neil Finn as the Finn Brothers.

Craig Hooper is an Australian musician who was a core member ( with Dave Mason ) of Indie rock band The Reels ( 1977 – 1992 ) and was in bands The Mullanes ( the initial incarnation of Crowded House ), The Church ( guested on their 1984 album Persia ) and The Crystal Set.

" Don't Dream It's Over " is a song written by Neil Finn and performed by New Zealand-Australian rock band Crowded House released in 1986 from their self-titled debut album.

As the recording sessions progressed it was decided that the album would be issued under the Crowded House band name, rather than as a Neil Finn solo album.

A statement issued by the band described him as, " A warm-hearted, funny and talented man, who was a valuable member of Crowded House.

In 2006, following the death of Hester, Finn reformed Crowded House ( adding Beck's former drummer Matt Sherrod ) and released their first studio album in over 13 years, Time on Earth, and the band began a world tour.

Hooper left just before they recorded their first album, at which time the band was renamed Crowded House, inspired by the rental home they shared while recording in Los Angeles.

He also played in Crowded House's touring band lineup in 2007.

However, Capitol disliked the name and the band changed to Crowded House to record their debut eponymous album, Crowded House in 1986.

This show gave Hester the room to explore his humorous presenter skills, showcase some friends, reunite with friends from Crowded House, and play with the house band and his own band, Largest Living Things, with Hester now performing from behind the drums instead of guitar.

Gert, having flirted for a while with the band name Moon Brigade, has announced that his new band's name is " Woodface " ( which is also the name of one of his favorite albums from Crowded House ).

Formed in 1997, in Auckland, the band features Liam Finn, son of Neil Finn, of Crowded House and Split Enz and Matt Eccles, son of Brent Eccles ( previously a member of The Angels and Citizen Band ).

The band played in Australia and also toured New Zealand in 1989, as a support act for Crowded House ( another band to have emerged from Split Enz ).
