* A very High resolution monochrome video card with blitter and hardware text line and arc drawing capability, was designed for CAD applications, based on the NEC µPD7220 chip designed for graphic terminals, but was also used by some personal computers like the DEC Rainbow, and notably also for the Tulip System I.

DEC initially started work on Alpha as a way to re-implement their VAX series, but also employed it in a range of high-performance workstations.

When DEC introduced the PDP-1, they also mentioned larger machines at 24, 30 and 36-bits, based on the same design.

As an aside, DEC UEG's main VAX, named decvax, was also one of the central nodes in the UUCP and Usenet network.

DEC also released a combination hardware and software product named Prestoserv which accelerated NFS file serving to allow better performance for diskless workstations to communicate to a file serving Ultrix host.

In 1998, Compaq also acquired the much larger Digital Equipment Corporation and inherited its DEC Alpha RISC servers with OpenVMS and Tru64 Unix customer bases.

Most computing platforms and microprocessor instruction set architectures are also supported, like x86 ( IA-32 and x86-64 ), PPC ( PowerPC ), ARM, DEC Alpha, SPARC, and MIPS.

DEC had also released captured beavers on the properties, who built dams and created new wetlands.

The company also bought DEC 3000 AXP workstations, packaged them with the Denali, and sold the integrated product as the Kenai workstation.

DEC is also responsible for the wildlife conservation project Western Shield.

Support was also included for SUPERVISORY mode which made RSTS the first DEC operating system with this capability.

DECnet was also supported as well as remote diagnostics from field service technicians at the RDC in Colorado Springs, Colorado ( a DEC subscription service ).

The DCL command structure between DEC operating systems also contributed to the familiar look and feel:

While Olsen believed VMS was a better solution for DEC customers and often talked of the strengths of the system, he did approve and encourage an internal effort to produce a native BSD-based UNIX product on the VAX line of computers called Ultrix.

Notably, the design team was led by Dirk Meyer, who had worked as a lead engineer on multiple Alpha microprocessors during his employment at DEC. While the 8088 was restricted to 1MB of memory because of its 20-bit address bus, DEC microprocessors were capable of accessing 4MB with their 22-bit addressing ( although direct addressing of memory was limited in both approaches to 64KB segments, limiting the size of individual code and data objects ).

Later Digital ported it to Ultrix, as well as Apple Macintosh and IBM PC running variants of DOS and Microsoft Windows under the name DEC Pathworks, allowing these systems to connect to DECnet networks of VAX machines as terminal nodes.

While attending the meeting with an early draft of what was then still MS Data Access, Kyle Geiger of Microsoft invited Jeff Balboni and Larry Barnes of Digital Equipment Corporation ( DEC ) to join the SQLC meetings as well.

It used to run on DEC Tru64 and Microsoft Windows NT, Demand for the Tru64 version was so low that support was dropped.

Miller worked as a member of the original team of developers who followed Dave Cutler from DEC to Microsoft, where he initially started working in the networking group.

Under his leadership TCS set up Technology Excellence Centers in India that have acquired knowledge, expertise and equipment in specialized technology areas like IBM, Oracle Corporation, SAP, AS400, DEC, HP, Microsoft, Silicon Graphics, Sun and Tandem.

3Com's version was an enhancement of the basic LAN Manager package, also sold by Microsoft and IBM and on other operating systems-for example, running on VAX / VMS it was the basis of DEC Pathworks.
