There is a John Dalton Street connecting Deansgate and Albert Square in the centre of Manchester.

Former studio employees named by Warner included Alvah Bessie, Howard Koch, Ring Lardner Jr., John Howard Lawson, Albert Maltz, Robert Rossen, Dalton Trumbo, Clifford Odets, and Irwin Shaw.

Lardner appeared before the HUAC on October 30, 1947, but like Alvah Bessie, Herbert Biberman, Albert Maltz, Adrian Scott, Dalton Trumbo, Lester Cole, Edward Dmytryk, Samuel Ornitz and John Howard Lawson, he refused to answer any questions.

Lady Geraldine Somerset blamed Dalton for Albert Victor's poor education, but possible physical explanations for Albert Victor's inattention or indolence in class include his premature birth, which can be associated with learning difficulties, or petit mal, a mild form of epilepsy manifested in childhood as periods of mental vacuity.

In recent years, Andrew Cook has continued attempts to rehabilitate Albert Victor's reputation, arguing that his lack of academic progress was partly due to the incompetence of his tutor, Dalton ; that he was a warm and charming man ; that there is no tangible evidence that he was homosexual or bisexual ; that he held liberal views, particularly on Irish Home Rule ; and that his reputation has been diminished by biographers eager to improve the image of his brother, George.

One was by Prince George of Wales, the future King George V. During his late adolescence, in 1880, with his elder brother Prince Albert Victor of Wales, he was on a three-year voyage with their tutor Dalton, temporarily shipped into HMS Inconstant after the damaged rudder in their original ship, the 4, 000-tonne corvette Bacchante was repaired.

George sent him a Christmas card ( from ' Sprat ', while Albert was ' herring ' and Thomas ' Old Voice '), both wrote letters and Dalton wrote to Thomas requesting that he write back and remain in contact.

A series of subsequent owners followed ; in sequence they were Henry Dalton, Joseph A. Rowe, Albert Dibblee in partnership with William Corbett and a Mr. Barker, Leonard Rose and William Wolfskill, Alfred Chapman with Harris Newmark until finally the property was sold to Elias Jackson Baldwin.

However, a study of Dalton's own laboratory notebooks, discovered in the rooms of the Lit & Phil, concluded that so far from Dalton being led by his search for an explanation of the law of multiple proportions to the idea that chemical combination consists in the interaction of atoms of definite and characteristic weight, the idea of atoms arose in his mind as a purely physical concept, forced upon him by study of the physical properties of the atmosphere and other gases.

After the 1945 general election, Attlee had it in mind to appoint Bevin as Chancellor and Hugh Dalton as Foreign Secretary, but ultimately changed his mind and swapped them round.

It wasn't until 1902 that the familiar push-button user interface was developed, with the introduction of the Dalton Adding Machine, developed by James L. Dalton in the United States.

James Dalton Trumbo ( December 9, 1905 – September 10, 1976 ) was an American screenwriter and novelist.

A documentary about Dalton Trumbo called Trumbo was produced in 2007 incorporating elements of the play as well as footage of Dalton Trumbo and a panoply of interviews.

For example, Dalton assumed that water's formula was HO, giving the atomic weight of oxygen as eight times that of hydrogen, instead of the modern value of about 16.

The former — whose screenplay was written by the blacklisted Dalton Trumbo, disguised by a front — features a bank holdup sequence shown in an unbroken take over three minutes long that proved widely influential.

The law of definite proportions contributed to, and was placed on a firm theoretical basis by, the atomic theory that John Dalton promoted beginning in 1803, which explained matter as consisting of discrete atoms, that there was one type of atom for each element, and that the compounds were made of combinations of different types of atoms in fixed proportions.

John Dalton FRS ( 6 September 1766 – 27 July 1844 ) was an English chemist, meteorologist and physicist.

John Dalton was born into a Quaker family at Eaglesfield, near Cockermouth, Cumberland, England.

The statue was erected while Dalton was still alive and it has been said: " He is probably the only scientist who got a statue in his lifetime ".

Cocker and Dalton used this, with a slight spelling change, and the band became " Arabicus ".

Dalton is perhaps best known as the site of the Dalton Vocational School, originally the Barlett Agricultural and Industrial School, also referred to as the " Tuskegee of the Midwest " or " Missouri Tuskegee ".

Locals in Dalton pronounce their town like " Dal '- ton " with the first syllable pronounced like the first syllable in " Dal-las ", not " DOLL-ton ".

Writing in Spring 1991, just after the band had split, Voxs Stephen Dalton referred to Spacemen 3 as " one of the most influential underground bands of the last decade ".

Pfeiffer and Worrall agree on the briefness of Leiter's role in the film, although they consider that Terry has " virtually no chemistry with Dalton ".

The series was started somewhere in 1881 after a letter was sent to the Secretary of State for India signed by Charles Darwin, Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker and other " eminent men of science ".

Other notable examples include Woody Allen's movie Manhattan Murder Mystery ( 1993 ) which directly refers to The Lady from Shanghai ; the CBS soap Guiding Light which, in 1980, featured a now famous sequence that depicted heroine Rita Bauer ( Lenore Kasdorf ) being pursued through a hall of mirrors by villain Roger Thorpe ( Michael Zaslow ); the show Macgyver, where Jack Dalton is brainwashed and is forced to fire on Macgyver ; and the Teen Titans series episode " Betrayal ".
