Debates surrounding the emission of bonds have stalled the approval of the national budget for many months on several occasions, reason for which in 2006 the government will finance the deficit by reducing expenditure in other posts.

These ranged from Royalists who wished to place King Charles II on the throne, to men like Oliver Cromwell, who wished to govern with a Parliament voted in by an electorate determined by property ownership, similar to that enfranchised before the civil war, to the Levellers, influenced by the writings of John Lilburne, who wanted parliamentary government based on an electorate constituted of every head of household ( normally though not necessarily male as was acknowledged in the Putney Debates ), through to other groups with smaller followings like the Fifth Monarchists, Gerrard Winstanley and the Diggers, the Ranters, and the Society of Friends ( Quakers ).

Debates on medical science now had two traditions, the more conservative Arabian and the liberal Greek.

Debates over the applicability of teleology to scientific questions came to a head in the nineteenth century, as Paley's argument about design came into conflict with radical new theories on the transmutation of species.

* Debates on the grammar school

The Citizens ' Debate Commission ( CDC ) employs criteria developed by the Appleseed Citizens ' Task Force on Fair Debates, a project of the Appleseed Electoral Reform Project at American University's Washington College of Law.

He was a Member of Parliament and a Leveller leader who had spoken at the Putney Debates.

Previously, Lincoln's opponent in the historic Lincoln-Douglas Debates, Stephen A. Douglas, had spoken in Augusta.
