In addition, Finkelstein provided what he claimed is evidence of plagiarism in instances where Dershowitz reproduced the exact errors found in Peters's citation of original sources, and thus argues that Dershowitz did not check the original sources he cited, a claim that Dershowitz adamantly denied.

Alan Dershowitz wrote a critical opinion piece arguing that “ some of Israel ’ s most vocal detractors are crossing a red line between acceptable criticism of Israel and legitimizing anti-Semitism .” Dershowitz uses numerous quotes from the book to support his position that Atzmon is an antisemite who states Jews seek to control the world, conflates “ the Jew ” and “ the Zionist ”, writes that Jews are evil and a menace to humanity, encourages readers to doubt the Holocaust and Jewish history, and holds that " Jews are corrupt and responsible for ‘ why ’ they are ‘ hated ’ and that Israel is worse than the Nazis.

Dershowitz then challenged professors Mearsheimer and Falk to a “ public debate about why they have endorsed and said such positive things about so hateful and anti-Semitic a book by so bigoted and dishonest a writer .” Falk rejected Dershowitz ' call to debate and wrote to The Daily Caller “ I have a limited taste for the sort of defamatory polemics that the Dershowitz attack mounts .” He wrote that " if the book is fairly read, and not denounced, it is concerned exclusively with ‘ Jewish identity ,’ not with Jews, and explores this reality in a highly personal, passionate, provocative, and honest manner .”

In 1995, the Boston Globe reported that New York Police Commissioner William J. Bratton created a furor when he said he agreed with most of what Dershowitz had to say.

In September 2006, Alan Dershowitz sent members of DePaul's law and political science faculties what he described as " a dossier of Norman Finkelstein's most egregious academic sins, and especially his outright lies, misquotations, and distortions that ... are not incidental to Finkelstein's purported scholarship ; they are Finkelstein's purported scholarship ," and he lobbied professors, alumni and administrators to deny Finkelstein tenure.

A prominent critic of Chomsky's political views, Professor Alan Dershowitz of Harvard Law School, told The New York Times that he believed most of those buying Hegemony or Survival would not read it, remarking that " I don't know anybody who's ever read a Chomsky book ".

Dershowitz also said that the majority justices " shamed themselves and the Court on which they serve, and ... defiled their places in history " and called the decision " the most perverse misuse of the Equal Protection Clause I've seen in my 40 years of law.

The word and its meaning have been publicized by defense attorney Alan Dershowitz, notably in a 1994 New York Times article, " Accomplices to Perjury ," in which he said:

Noting his perception of Dershowitz's lack of knowledge about specific contents of his own book during an interview of the two men by Amy Goodman on Democracy Now !, Finkelstein also charged that Dershowitz could not have written the book and may not have even read it.

Dershowitz claims to have written every word of The Case for Israel by hand and to have sent UCP his handwritten manuscript.

Finkelstein claims to have asked for the drafts and that Dershowitz has not produced them.

Dershowitz has received numerous praises for the eloquent articulation of arguments that many in the pro-Israel community have traditionally held.

(...) There was no way Dershowitz could have independently generated exactly those 20 errors — he must have copied them.

Phillips's criticisms of liberal Jews who disagree with her positions on Israel have been condemned by Jewish writers such as Jonathan Freedland, Alan Dershowitz, and Rabbi David Goldberg.

University administrations have learned to get around constitutional protections and effectively diminish critical student newspapers by following the example of former Boston University President John Silber, who on the advice of Harvard Law School Professor Alan Dershowitz, eliminated all funding for student newspapers in the 1970s in an attempt to suppress on-campus criticism.

" Several supporters of Finkelstein, however, demanded that Dershowitz be fired from his professorship at Harvard Law School.

As a result, when the book was published, it no longer used the word " plagiarize " in its argument that Dershowitz inappropriately borrowed from another work, nor did it include the claim that Dershowitz did not write The Case for Israel, because, the publisher said, " he couldn't document that.

In quoting Mark Twain, Finkelstein argued, " Dershowitz cites two paragraphs from Twain as continuous text, just as Peters cites them as continuous text, but in Twain's book the two paragraphs are separated by 87 pages.

Finkelstein's conclusion from the passages that he cited is that Dershowitz did not research his sources directly, but instead in twenty instances had used Peters ' book without crediting her.

This alleged mistake by Dershowitz, Finkelstein argued, fits a pattern of cribbing from Peters while not crediting her.

Gilad Atzmon offered to debate Dershowitz " any time.

" He called various criticisms " a typical Hasbara smear & intimidation campaign .” Atzmon replied to the MacDonald review referenced by Dershowitz writing his own book " is a study of Jewish identity politics and Jewish culture, it is not concerned with Jewish ethnicity or racial origins.
