Originally active from 1985 to 1996, the band have had consistent commercial and critical success in Australia and New Zealand and international chart success in two phases, beginning with their self-titled debut album, Crowded House, which reached number twelve on the US Album Chart in 1987 and provided the Top Ten hits, " Don't Dream It's Over " and " Something So Strong ".

The single, " Don't Dream It's Over ", was released in December 1986 and reached number one on the New Zealand Singles Chart and number eight in Australia.

In March 1987, the group were awarded ' Best New Talent ', along with ' Song of the Year ' and ' Best Video ' for " Don't Dream It's Over ", at the inaugural ARIA Music Awards.

In May 2001, " Don't Dream it's Over " was voted 7th in a poll of the Best Australian Songs of Alltime by the Australasian Performing Rights Association.

The follow-up to " Don't Dream it's Over ", " Something So Strong ", was not as successful as its predecessor but reached the top ten in New Zealand, America and Canada.

Seymour collaborated with Finn and Hester on the set design of some of their early music videos, including " Don't Dream It's Over " and " Better Be Home Soon ".

In 1987, Crowded House won the American MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist for their song " Don't Dream It's Over ", which was also nominated for three other awards.

In 2009, " Don't Dream It's Over " was ranked number fifty on the Triple J Hottest 100 of All Time, voted by the Australian public.

Other songs performed by Amos include The Doors ' " People are Strange ", Depeche Mode's " Personal Jesus ", Joni Mitchell's " The Circle Game ", Madonna's " Live to Tell " and " Like a Prayer ", Björk's " Hyperballad ", Led Zeppelin's " When the Levee Breaks " ( which she debuted in Austin, Texas, just after the events of Hurricane Katrina ), Kate Bush's " And Dream of Sheep " and Crowded House's " Don't Dream It's Over ", dedicating it to drummer Paul Hester who had died a week before.

They are best known for their songs " Kiss Me " and " Breathe Your Name " and their covers of " Don't Dream It's Over " and " There She Goes ".

The album itself differs significantly from the first pre-release version of it that had circulated: the songs " Us ", " Deeper ", " Don't Pass Me By ", " Too Far Gone ", " Northern Lights ", and " Loser Like Me " were cut, and " Down and Out of Time ", " A Million Parachutes ", " Tonight ", " Waiting on the Sun ", and a cover of Crowded House's " Don't Dream It's Over " were added.

Two of Divine Discontents singles, " Don't Dream It's Over " and " Breathe Your Name ", received significant radio airplay and appeared on various Billboard charts.

The group achieved international success in 1987 when they released the single " Don't Dream It's Over " written by Neil.

Crowded House went on to enormous success worldwide, in particular with two major hits: " Don't Dream It's Over " ( US # 2, 1987 ) and " Weather With You " ( UK # 7, 1992 ).

The effects of the group's charity single, " Never Had a Dream Come True ", were felt when the group handed over £ 200, 000 to Children in Need, from the sales of the CD after the release of " Don't Stop Movin '" in April 2001.

The early 1980s saw further chart successes in the US with " Since I Don't Have You ", a new recording of " Castles in the Air " and " It's Just the Sun ".

But she drifted back to songwriting and occasional recording sessions for the fledgling Capitol Records in 1947, for whom she produced a long string of hits, many of them with lyrics and music by Lee and Barbour, including " I Don't Know Enough About You " and " It's a Good Day " ( 1948 ).

Though Winner Takes All went gold and later spawned the number-one hit " I Wanna Be With You " as well as the top 20 UK hit, " It's a Disco Night ( Rock Don't Stop )", the brothers would struggle to make platinum on their next four releases.

It was shelved until the following year, where it appeared with two songs removed from the original tracklist ( a live version of " Don't Cry No Tears " recorded in Japan in 1976, and a live version of " Pushed it Over The End " recorded in 1974 ).

The album spawned hit singles from both Newton-John (" Magic ," No. 1 in the United States, and " Suddenly " with Cliff Richard ) and ELO (" I'm Alive ", which went gold, " All Over the World " and " Don't Walk Away ").

The song was titled " Don't Make Me Over ", the title ( according to the A & E Biography of Dionne Warwick ) supplied by Warwick herself, when she snapped the phrase at producers Burt Bacharach and Hal David in anger.

According to the July 14, 1967 Time magazine article, after " Don't Make Me Over " hit in 1962, she answered the call of her manager (" C ' mon, baby, you gotta go "), left school and went on a tour of France, where critics crowned her " Paris ' Black Pearl ," having been introduced on stage at Paris Olympia that year by Marlene Dietrich.

The two immediate follow-ups to " Don't Make Me Over " —- " This Empty Place " ( with " B " Side " Wishin ' and Hopin '" later covered by Dusty Springfield ) and " Make The Music Play " -— charted briefly in the top 100.
