The late 1980s and early 1990s are remembered as one of the most competitive eras of Grand Prix racing with a field rich in talent that included Rainey, Wayne Gardner, Mick Doohan, Eddie Lawson and Randy Mamola.

In August 2006 Doohan appeared in Darwin Magistrates Court to face charges over a weekend fracas at a strip club.

Cast members ( rumored to be Kelley and Doohan ) were playing a practical joke on Shatner and deliberately aiming the prop Tribbles at his head, seeing if he could complete the scene without breaking character.

Astronaut Neil Armstrong, an engineer before he participated in NASA's Apollo program, personally told Doohan on stage at Doohan's last public appearance, " From one old engineer to another, thanks, mate.

Coincidentally, Doohan died on the anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing, arguably the greatest engineering achievement in human history.
