For several television appearances behind these songs, The Move added two musicians who became members of the group after its transition into ELO: Bill Hunt ( horns, woodwind, piano ) and Richard Tandy ( guitar, bass ).

It was while playing with Barefoot in Birmingham that he was spotted by ELO's Jeff Lynne ; and after Lynne, Bev Bevan and Richard Tandy had watched him play, he was invited to join ELO, to replace Mike de Albuquerque, who had recently left the band.

Dave Kerr-Clemenson, after touring with White Plains and Andy Locke, went on to form Fast Buck and recorded an album with Jet Records and toured the world extensively supporting ELO.

It was also the final ELO studio album to become a worldwide top 40 hit upon release.

In the 1980 movie Xanadu, she appears as one of the nine immortal Muses during the opening song I'm Alive by ELO as well as the final title number of Xanadu.

ELO played some live concerts in the UK and Europe ( their last for fifteen years ), and in one UK show George Harrison performed as guest guitarist.

Electric Light Orchestra ( ELO ) were a British rock group from Birmingham who released eleven studio albums between 1971 and 1986 and another album in 2001.

From 1972 to 1986, ELO accumulated 27 Top-40 hit singles in both the UK and the US.

Lynne, with the 7-piece line-up that supported Time ( with the exception of bassist Groucutt being replaced by Martin Smith ), played a small number of live ELO performances in 1986, including shows in England and Germany along with US appearances on American Bandstand, Solid Gold, then at Disneyland that summer.

Upon completion of the album Lynne reformed the band with completely new members including his then-girlfriend Rosie Vela ( who had released her own album " Zazu ", in 1986 ) and announced that ELO would tour again.

After the end of ELO in 1986, he founded ELO Part II without the original ELO singer-songwriter, Jeff Lynne.

Other artists to record there are: Jamiroquai, ELO, Oasis, Wildhearts, PJ Harvey and Matmatah.

ELO had become successful in the United States at this point and the group was a star attraction on the stadium and arena circuit, as well as regularly appearing on The Midnight Special ( 1973, 1975, 1976 & 1977 ) more than any other band in that show's history with four appearances.

It was on the American tour that ELO first debuted their use of coloured lasers.

Time topped the UK charts for two weeks and was the last ELO studio album to date to be certified platinum in the United Kingdom.

It was the first ELO tour without cellists, although Mik Kaminski returned to play his famous " blue violin.

However, Lynne was contractually obligated to make one more ELO album.

Bevan approached Lynne to make another ELO album in 1988, but Lynne was not interested and went on to announce that ELO was no more.

Though billed and marketed as an ELO album, the only returning member other than Lynne was Tandy, who performed on one track.

Former ELO member Tandy rejoined the band a short time afterwards for two television live performances: VH1 Storytellers and a PBS concert shot at CBS Television City, later titled Zoom Tour Live, that was released on DVD.

Guitarist / vocalist / songwriter / producer Phil Bates ( Trickster, ELO Pt2, Quill and solo artist ) was born in Tamworth, and played in local bands the Teenbeats and Source of Power until moving away from the area in 1971.

However, the band began to develop a fan base in Japan and " ELO Kiddies " was a hit single in Europe.

Well aware that Wood was intent on setting up his new orchestral rock project ( which eventually became ELO ), he suggested that Wood could concentrate on performing with his new band while continuing to write songs for The Move.

Bates departed in July 2007 to rejoin ELO Part II, now renamed The Orchestra and was replaced with Gordon Healer.

When The Move was still on tour, he founded, together with his band colleagues Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan, the Electric Light Orchestra ( ELO ), which was later to gain major commercial success.

The original intention was to continue with both The Move and ELO, but the former soon ceased to exist.

Hipgnosis was an English art design group based in South Kensington, London that specialised in creating cover art for the albums of rock musicians and bands, most notably Pink Floyd, T. Rex, The Pretty Things, UFO, 10cc, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, AC / DC, Scorpions, Yes, The Alan Parsons Project, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, ELO & XTC.

The internationally oriented but US based Electronic Literature Organization ( ELO ) was founded in 1999 to promote the creation and enjoyment of electronic literature.

Discovery is notable in that it was the first ELO album not to feature their resident string trio of Mik Kaminski, Hugh McDowell and Melvyn Gale, although they did make an appearance on the Discovery music videos that were created as a substitute for a live concert tour.

A number of " ELO firsts " can be attributed to this album: it was the first ELO album not to feature any strings whatsoever ; the first to feature a saxophone solo ; and the band's first compact disc issued.

Bevan ( under an agreement with Lynne who co-owned the ELO name with him ) continued on in 1989 as ELO Part II, initially with no other former ELO members except Clark.

ELO also made their first appearance on American Bandstand.

Lynne made two albums (" Looking On " and " Message from the Country ") and a handful of singles with the Move, including the first version of " Do Ya ", as work on the first ELO album continued in the studio throughout 1970 and 1971.

From June 11 – 21, he made his debut at the Bazna Kings Tournament in Romania in a field including Carlsen, world No. 5 Vassily Ivanchuk, world No. 6 Sergey Karjakin, world No. 13 Teimour Radjabov and Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu ; the tournament was a Category XXI event with an average ELO of 2760, making it the third strongest tournament in history ; Nakamura finished 4½ / 10 ; the tournament was won by Carlsen on tiebreak over Karjakin.

He later made contributions to the ELO II album and performed on the hit singles " Roll Over Beethoven ", " Showdown " and " Ma-Ma-Ma Belle " playing alongside cellists Colin Walker and Mike Edwards.

Wayne also made a few recordings with the Electric Light Orchestra as guest vocalist, though these remained unreleased, until they appeared as bonus tracks on a remastered re-issue of the group's second album, ELO 2 in 2003.

Over time, many features were added to the ICS, such as ELO ratings and support for graphical clients, and the server was made more stable.

Louis Clark returned to conduct the strings once more and violinist Mik Kaminski appeared on an ELO recording for the first time since 1977's Out of the Blue, playing a violin solo on the track " Rock ' n ' Roll Is King.

Kelly Groucutt ( 8 September 1945 – 19 February 2009 ), born Michael William Groucutt, was an English musician who was best known for being the bassist for the English rock band Electric Light Orchestra ( ELO ), between 1974 and 1983.

Groucutt remained with ELO until the onset of the recording sessions for 1983's Secret Messages album.

In the US, a small Jet logo started appearing on the UA label in 1975 for releases by ELO and Wood.

The Jet label was first used in the USA for ELO leader Jeff Lynne's solo single " Doin ' That Crazy Thing " in the summer of 1977 and subsequently for the ELO album Out of the Blue.

In 2000, Jeff Lynne found a new impetus to work on the music of his old band and returned to the recording studio to work on an ELO project for the first time in some 15 years just prior to the comeback Zoom in 2001 resulting in a digitally remastered compilation released in late 2000.

Payne was considered for a position in ELO Part II on guitar and vocals.

As well as ELO, he has collaborated musically with Jeff Lynne on many projects, among them songs for the Electric Dreams soundtrack, Lynne's solo album Armchair Theatre and Lynne produced Dave Edmunds " Information ".

Some of the ideas for the ELO album titles thought up by Richard Tandy were A New World Record, Out of the Blue, and Discovery.
