The upgrade is being carried out by Embraer and Elbit ; it includes a new avionics suite, a full glass cockpit with three MFDs, HOTAS configuration and a new multimode radar, the Italian Grifo F. Royale Airlines, a commuter air carrier that was based in Louisiana, also served the airport with Beechcraft and Embraer EMB-110 " Bandeirante " turboprop flights nonstop to Houston and New Orleans.

To a lesser extent in Europe and the United Kingdom this transition, to notably the Embraer or Canadair designs, was well advanced by the late 1990s.

The result was Compass Airlines, which began service using Embraer E175 jets in August 2007.

Region Airways was a small commuter airline based at Southend in the late 1980s and early 1990s that provided services to Brussels, Rotterdam and Paris using Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirante and Jetstream 31 aircraft.

In December 2008, Delta announced that the MD-88s on its New York-Washington route would be phased out in favor of the Embraer 175 jets, operated by Delta Connection partners.

In December 2010 Lufthansa signed an order for eight more Embraer E-195s to supplement the 30 E-190s and E-195s ordered in June 2007 for Lufthansa Regional Airlines.

On 7 December 2009 an Embraer ERJ 135 aircraft operated by Airlink on a scheduled flight ( SA-8625 ) overrun the runway at George Airport in wet conditions and ended up on the R404.

Alas Chiricanas Flight 00901, registry HP-1202AC, was an Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirante aircraft flying en-route from Colón city to Panama City which exploded shortly after departing Enrique Adolfo Jiménez Airport, on the night of July 19, 1994.

In the early 1990s, much more advanced turboprop-powered, fuel efficient, and passenger friendly DC-3 type replacement projects such as the 19 passenger Embraer / FMA CBA 123 Vector and the 34 seat Dornier 328 were undertaken, but met little financial success, partly due to economic downturn in the airline industry resulting from the outbreak of hostilities when Iraq invaded Kuwait.

As part of US Airways ' bankruptcy restructuring, the 25 Embraer 170s delivered to MidAtlantic were bought by Republic to help US Airways to come out of bankruptcy, which operates them along with additional newly-delivered aircraft on order under a conventional Express carrier contract.

Its two remaining Saab 2000s were phased out in 2006 and the last of its nine Embraer EMB-120 Brasilias followed in 2008, marking the exit of all of Régional ’ s turboprop aircraft.

The recent fleet of Alitalia Express ( 6 Embraer 170LR ) was completely phased out by March 2012.

Qantas operates Boeing 737-800s, Qantaslink operates Boeing 717-200s and Virgin Australia operates a mixture of Boeing 737-700 / 800s and Embraer E-190s in and out of Ayers Rock Airport.

This new jet competes with the Boeing 737-600, Boeing 737-700, Airbus A318, Airbus A319, and Embraer 195.

On 17 August 2008, Royal Jordanian opened a new route to Kiev, using Embraer 195 jets for this twice weekly service.

Unlike the rest of Concourse E, this new portion will have 2 levels to accommodate larger CRJs and Embraer aircraft.

During 2008, Copa Airlines added five new destinations and received four Embraer 190 and 1 Boeing 737-800.

The ERJ's success led to a totally new version, the Embraer E-Jets series, which Bombardier chose not to compete against until recently, with the announced Bombardier CSeries.

In 2008 a new TACA brand logo was introduced followed by a new fleet of Embraer 190 airplanes registered in Costa Rica for strategic reasons and operated under the Lacsa code.

Since 2008, a new fleet of Embraer 190 was introduced, flying under the renewed TACA logo.

This has since attracted the new Trenton-based airline Streamline to start its first public charter route to Hanscom using 30 seat Embraer 120 Brasília aircraft, beginning with two daily round trips on weekdays.

In mid-2011 Bulgaria Air announced that after a thorough analysis of their destinations they had chosen to purchase 7 new Embraer E-190 aircraft.

The successful Tucano T-27 trainer and the new light attack aircraft " A-29 ," are also Embraer aircraft used extensively by the FAB.

The first 4 brand new Embraer ERJ 190 arrived in October 2007 and early 2008, and the airline already announced an order for 12 more frames that will start arriving in early 2009.
