It was not until 1927 that Everton's first sustained period of success began.

The cup triumph was also Everton's passport to the Cup Winners ' Cup — their first European campaign in the post-Heysel era.

Pembridge had a good first two seasons at Everton, with his tenacious approach and thrusting runs from deep establishing the Welshman as an integral part of Everton's squad, thus securing him an excellent rapport with the Goodison Park faithful.

Myhre instantly established himself as Everton's first choice goalkeeper ahead of British goalkeepers Neville Southall and Paul Gerrard, playing a key role in keeping the club in the Premier League.

In the first half of the 1999-2000 season, he scored Everton's winning goal in the Merseyside derby at Anfield against Liverpool.

Sugg captained The Wednesday, Derby County and Burnley in football and was Everton's first Football League centre forward in 1888 / 89 season.

In 1983, Harvey was promoted to first team coach, which coincided with the beginning of Everton's most successful period in their history in the mid-1980s ( two Championships, FA Cup and a European Cup Winners ' Cup ).

In October 1984, he scored the lone goal in Everton's first win at Anfield since 1970.

Carsley returned to the Everton's first team for the 0 – 0 away draw with Charlton Athletic in April 2006.

His commanding presence in the Toffees midfield earned him the captaincy of the club but Everton's lack of success couldn't quench his thirst for honours, so after 4 seasons which included 100 league appearances and 11 league goals McMahon was on the move.

Then it all went horribly wrong for Beglin, just seven months after lifting the league and cup double, his leg was badly broken following a mistimed tackle from Everton's Gary Stevens in the Merseyside derby of February 1987.

Watson got his hands on some silverware for one final time in 1995 when he captained Everton to a surprise 1 – 0 win over Manchester United in the FA Cup final – by now he was one of the last players remaining from Everton's last major trophy win ( the league title ) eight years earlier.

In October 2007, McFadden scored a critical equalising goal in Everton's victory over Metalist Kharkiv in the UEFA Cup.

He featured prominently in Everton's FA Cup-winning season, scoring a memorable 20-yard volley against Bristol City in the Fourth Round to secure a fortuitous 1 – 0 victory for Everton.

He marked the occasion by scoring a goal in the second half to take the score to 4 – 0 and cap off Everton's victory.

Shankly was characteristically defiant whenever Everton got the better of Liverpool and, although he liked and respected everyone connected with Everton, would always talk up Liverpool at Everton's expense.

A confrontation between Moyes and Duncan Ferguson at Everton's training ground was said to be symptomatic of the problems at the club.

In June 1914, another phase of enhancements began at Villa Park to compete with improvements at other grounds around the country, including Everton's Goodison Park, where a new two-tiered stand had just been completed.

In the 1890s, a dispute about how the club was to be owned and run emerged with John Houlding, Anfield's majority owner and Everton's Chairman, at the forefront.

Dean died on 1 March 1980, aged 73 after suffering a heart attack at Everton's home ground Goodison Park whilst watching a match against their closest rivals, Liverpool.

On 13 May 2012, during Everton's last match against at Goodison Park, Cahill was sent off for violent conduct after the full time whistle for an altercation with Yohan Cabaye.

Wilson's fortunes declined at Everton following another injury, and he was granted a free transfer to Oldham Athletic in 1969, just missing out on Everton's First Division title in 1970.
