Republic, released around the world in 1993, was the band's first album release since parting company with the now-defunct Factory Records.

Despite the demise of Factory Records in 1992, the catalogue was still active, additions including the 24 Hour Party People film ( FAC 401 ), its website ( FAC 433 ) and DVD release ( FACDVD 424 ), and a book, Factory Records: The Complete Graphic Album ( FAC 461 ).

The first release was by Factory stalwarts The Durutti Column, the other main acts on the label were Hopper and Space Monkeys, and the label also gave a UK release to the first album by Stephin Merritt's side project The 6ths, Wasps ' Nests.

The Durutti Column played at the Factory club ( organised by their managers ), and cut 2 numbers for the first Factory Records release A Factory Sample, a double 7 " compilation also featuring Joy Division, John Dowie and Cabaret Voltaire.

In 1993 Tony Wilson attempted to revive Factory Records, and Sex and Death was the first release on Factory Too ( a subdivision of London Records ).

A download-only release, Heaven Sent ( It Was Called Digital, It Was Heaven Sent ), first appeared in 2005 via Wilson's project F4, which was marketed as the fourth version of Factory Records.

Factory announced that it had acquired the rights to the show and would release the complete series on DVD and digital formats in 2011.

Factory will release a collector's edition DVD of the film on September 18, 2012.

The fictional Willy Wonka from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory ( 1971 ), a film based on 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, was licensed to name a real Willy Wonka candy company soon after the film's release ; the brand is now controlled by Nestlé.

Factory and Marvel Comics teamed up to release a series of Animated Series on DVD.

The cover is similar to the LP, except " 1987 " is replaced by " 1989 " ( though the on-screen title is Substance 1983-88 ) and different background colours are used ; the Factory / Qwest release has a grey background, the Japanese VHS release, blue and the LaserDisc, turquoise.

The plant was named UK Factory of the Year for 2009.
