In the Armory show Jacques Villon exhibited seven important and large drypoints, his brother Marcel Duchamp shocked the American public with his painting Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2 ( 1912 ) and Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Raymond Duchamp-Villon, Roger de La Fresnaye, Marie Laurencin, Albert Gleizes, and other cubist painters contributed examples of their cubist works.

This group of four painters ( Jean-Paul Jérôme, Louis Belzile, Rodolphe de Repentigny and Fernand Toupin ) wanted abstract painting to go mainstream, and Claude Tousignant dove right in.

Its leader Fernand Braudel devoted the first volume – called The Structures of Everyday Life – of his major work, Civilization and Capitalism 15th – 18th Century to the largely silent and invisible world that existed below the market economy.
