As the movie opens, high school senior Ferris Bueller ( Matthew Broderick ) decides to skip school on a nice spring day by faking an illness to his parents ( Lyman Ward and Cindy Pickett ), then encourages his girlfriend, Sloane Peterson ( Mia Sara ) and his pessimistic best friend, Cameron Frye ( Alan Ruck ) to spend the day in Chicago as one of their last flings before they head off to different colleges.

Ferris walks Sloane home, before realizing he must get home within five minutes.

In the next scene, Sloane, Cameron, and Ferris are in the left field stands inside Wrigley.

Hughes had also wanted to film a scene where Ferris, Sloane, and Cameron go to a strip club.

In a scene from the 1986 John Hughes movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Alan Ruck uses this accent to imitate Sloane Petersen's father as part of an attempt to trick Dean Rooney into letting her leave school.

A reference is made to the song in the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off when a bedridden Cameron Frye sings, " When Cameron was in Egypt's land, let my Cameron go ".

Ferris persuades Cameron to let them use his father's prized 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California convertible to drive into the city.

Despite Ferris ' offer to take the blame, Cameron still plans to " take the heat " and admit his actions to his father.

In the film, Ferris convinces Cameron to borrow his father's rare 1961 Ferrari GT California.

Alan Ruck ( born July 1, 1956 ) is an American film, stage and television actor, perhaps best known for his roles as Cameron Frye in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Stuart Bondek on Spin City.

Ruck is perhaps best known for his role as Cameron Frye, Ferris Bueller's hypochondriac best friend in John Hughes ' Ferris Bueller's Day Off ( Ruck was actually 29 when he portrayed the 17-year-old Cameron ), and as Stuart Bondek, the lecherous, power-hungry member of the mayor's staff on the hit ABC sitcom Spin City, which ran from 1996-2002.

He even mentions still trying to pay off an old Ferrari, a reference to Cameron totaling his dad's Ferrari in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
