The show's theme song, " The Ballad of Jed Clampett ", was written by producer and writer Paul Henning and originally performed by bluegrass artists Flatt and Scruggs.

The song was sung by Jerry Scoggins ( backed by Flatt and Scruggs ) over the opening and end credits of each episode.

The series generally featured no country music beyond the bluegrass banjo theme song, although country star Roy Clark and the team of Flatt and Scruggs occasionally played on the program.

In 1948 Scruggs and guitarist Lester Flatt left Monroe's band and formed the Foggy Mountain Boys, also later known simply as Flatt and Scruggs.

Flatt and Scruggs became members of the Grand Ole Opry in the 1950s.

On September 24, 1962, singer Jerry Scoggins, Lester Flatt and Scruggs recorded " The Ballad of Jed Clampett " for the TV show The Beverly Hillbillies, which was released October 12, 1962.

Flatt and Scruggs appeared in several episodes as family friends of the Clampetts in the following years.

Flatt and Scruggs won a Grammy Award in 1969 for Scruggs ' instrumental " Foggy Mountain Breakdown ".

The instrumental banjo piece " Foggy Mountain Breakdown " by Flatt and Scruggs was introduced to a worldwide audience as a result of its frequent use in the movie.

It was the hometown of Lester Flatt of the bluegrass music legends Flatt and Scruggs.

The guitar is now most commonly played with a style referred to as flatpicking, unlike the style of seminal bluegrass guitarist Lester Flatt, who used a thumb and finger pick.

The band would play various festivals and shows, sharing the bill with bluegrass legends like Lester Flatt and Grandpa Jones.

Originally formed in 1948 by Flatt, who brought Scruggs with him shortly after leaving Bill Monroe ’ s bluegrass band.

Monroe became the father of bluegrass music, and his band was a training ground for most of bluegrass ' future stars, especially Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs.

Ernie Flatt, who had been the choreographer on Burnett's show for its entire 11 year-run run, was replaced by the show's lead dancer Don Crichton.
