In 1938, The Captain and the Kids became the subject of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's first self-produced series of theatrical short subject cartoons, directed by William Hanna, Bob Allen and Friz Freleng.

The Disney studio expanded and Walt re-hired Harman, Rudolph Ising, Carman Maxwell, and Friz Freleng from Kansas City.

By the end of the decade, a new Schlesinger production team, including directors Friz Freleng, Tex Avery, Robert Clampett, and Chuck Jones was formed.

With the animators working in the Termite Terrace studio, they debuted the first truly major Looney Tunes star, Porky Pig, who was introduced in 1935 along with Beans the Cat in the Merrie Melodie cartoon I Haven't Got a Hat directed by Friz Freleng.

The character was designed by animator Bob Clampett and introduced in the short I Haven't Got a Hat ( first released on March 9, 1935 ), directed by Friz Freleng.

In fact, Friz Freleng satirized this phenomenon when he directed You Ought To Be in Pictures ( 1940 ).

A color remake of Porky in Wackyland was supervised by Friz Freleng in 1948.

After the release of The Petrified Forest, Friz Freleng made the short-length cartoon parody She Was an Acrobat's Daughter ( 1937 ), which portrays a cinema audience watching The Petrified Florist, starring Bette Davis and Lester Coward.

The name is an homage to animator Friz Freleng.

Tweety was toned down when Friz Freleng started directing the series into a more cutesy bird, and even more when Granny was introduced, however sometimes Tweety still kept his malicious side.

Clampett began work on a short that would pit Tweety against a then-unnamed, lisping black and white cat created by Friz Freleng in 1945.

Animation director Chuck Jones noted that Bugs Bunny soon began to outwit Yosemite Sam ( the creation of the senior director, Friz Freleng ), so he decided to create the opposite type of character ; one who was quiet and soft-spoken, but whose actions were incredibly destructive and legitimately dangerous.

Though he was created by McKimson, the majority of the cartoons with him were directed by Friz Freleng.

It would be two years before Friz Freleng and animator Hawley Pratt redesigned the character into his modern incarnation for the 1955 Freleng short, Speedy Gonzales.

In 1952's Tree for Two by Friz Freleng, Sylvester is cornered in the back alley and this would result in Spike getting mauled by a black panther that had escaped from a zoo.

* Back Alley Oproar ( 1948 ), a Friz Freleng cartoon ( actually a remake of the 1941 short Notes To You ) wherein Sylvester pesters the sleep-deprived Elmer Fudd by performing several amazing musical numbers in the alley ( and even a sweet lullaby (" go to sleep ... go to sleep ... close your big bloodshot eyes ...") to temporarily ease Elmer back to the dream world, though very temporarily.

Cartoon Studio opened in their Uncle Robert's garage and hired back former employees of the Laugh-O-Grams studio including ; Ub Iwerks, Hugh Harman, Rudolf Ising, Carman Maxwell and Friz Freleng.

Designed by Max Friz for use as a portable industrial engine, the M2B15 was largely used by motorcycle manufacturers, notably Victoria of Nuremberg, and Bayerische Flugzeugwerke in their Helios motorcycle.

By this time Warners ' cartoons directors of the 1940s were Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones and Bob Clampett.

" As the feature was compiled by Jones ( along with Friz Freleng ), the complete omission of Clampett is not surprising.

Clampett's colleague Friz Freleng directed a cartoon titled Goldilocks and the Jivin ' Bears in 1944, essentially Coal Black remade with a different fairy tale, and Warner's director Chuck Jones directed a series of shorts starring a prepubescent African hunter named Inki from 1939 to 1950.

The DVDs also feature several special features including interviews / documentaries of the people behind the cartoons such as Friz Freleng, Bob Clampett, Tex Avery, Robert McKimson, Chuck Jones, musical conductor Carl Stalling, and voice-artist Mel Blanc, pencil tests, and audio commentaries by animation historians Jerry Beck, Michael Barrier, and Greg Ford, as well as current animators Paul Dini, Eric Goldberg, and John Kricfalusi.

These devices were most pronounced in the Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies cartoons from Warner Brothers directed by Bob Clampett, Chuck Jones, and Friz Freleng and in the MGM Cartoons of Tex Avery and the " Tom and Jerry " cartoons of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.

Chuck Jones and Friz Freleng produced, directed, and created the storyboards for the earliest of these, with Robert McKimson later taking over the direction while Jones and Freleng continued producing and writing.

* Bugs's nonchalant carrot-chewing stance, as explained many years later by Chuck Jones, and again by Friz Freleng and Bob Clampett, comes from the movie It Happened One Night, from a scene where the Clark Gable character is leaning against a fence eating carrots more quickly than he is swallowing ( as Bugs would later often do ), giving instructions with his mouth full to the Claudette Colbert character, during the hitch-hiking sequence.

After leaving the remnants of Termite Terrace behind for good, Friz Freleng and his new partner David H. DePatie went on to produce the Pink Panther cartoons during the 1960s and 1970s, with the cartoons appearing almost simultaneously on television and in theaters through a distribution deal with United Artists.

Isadore " Friz " Freleng ( August 21, 1906 – May 26, 1995 ) was an American animator, cartoonist, director, and producer best known for his work on the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of cartoons from Warner Bros.

In his first years at the studio, Clampett mostly worked for Friz Freleng, under whose guidance Clampett grew into an able animator.

Knighty Knight Bugs is a 1958 Looney Tunes cartoon directed by Friz Freleng, produced by Warner Bros. Cartoons and released by Warner Bros .. Mel Blanc provided for the voices of all the characters in this cartoon.

The Gophers lay dormant for two years until Friz Freleng made a series of four shorts beginning with 1951's " A Bone for a Bone ", another dog-versus-gophers short.

As an animator, Friz Freleng enjoyed creating new adversaries for Warners ' star Bugs Bunny, since he felt that Bugs ' other nemeses, such as Beaky Buzzard and Elmer Fudd ( who actually appeared in many more Freleng shorts than is commonly realized ), were too stupid to give the rabbit any real challenge.

Davis then was taken into Friz Freleng's unit, and served as one of Freleng's key animators for many years, until the studio closed.

David DePatie and Friz Freleng served as producers for the series.

He is also said to have stopped for water at the first and third islands, before returning to Mozambique .. Diogo Fernandes island (' Domigo Friz ') was visited by Dom Diogo Lopes de Sequeira in 1509 and the name ' Don Galopes ' ( another transcribed abbreviation ) sometimes appears for that island in some maps.

From Friz Freleng's 1937 " products come to life " Merrie Melodies short, September In The Rain, the recorded performance of " Nagasaki " is re-used completely intact, and the " Fats Waller " cat, " Louis Armstrong " trumpeter, jitterbugging woman and the trio of singing bartenders are re-prurposed for this cartoon.

Segments specifically created for the nightmare sequence ( such as the " Rubber ( musical ) Band " made up of rubber bands ) would resurface in Friz Freleng's 1949 color remake of Porky In Wackyland, Dough for the Do-Do.
