From mid-June to mid-September the prevailing wind, called the shamal, is from the north and northwest.

From there, it flows northwest through Allegheny and Beaver counties, before making an abrupt turn to the south-southwest at the West Virginia – Ohio – Pennsylvania triple-state line ( near East Liverpool, Ohio ; Chester, West Virginia ; and Midland, Pennsylvania ).

From the northwest to the southeast, the height of the mostly wooded knolls increases: the Gubrist (), the Hönggerberg (), the Käferberg (), the Zürichberg () and the Adlisberg ().

From Fort Bridger, the main trail, comprising several variants, veered northwest over the Bear River Divide and descended to the Bear River Valley.

From the town common, Petersham is northwest of Worcester, north-northeast of Springfield, and west-northwest of Boston.

From the mid-19th century until about the time of World War I, Halesite was served by a trolley line, which brought passengers from Huntington Village to the end of New York Avenue, at the northwest end of Halesite.

From Bellevue, Norfolk Southern Lines extend northeast to Cleveland, north to Sandusky, northwest to Toledo, west to Fort Wayne, Indiana and south to Columbus.

From here, the route turns northwest and crosses County Route 543 before heading through a mix of farm fields and suburban residential neighborhoods.

From Tippecanoe Lake in Kosciusko County, the river flows south and west through the southeast corner of Marshall County, then bends northwest through the northern part of Fulton County and through Pulaski County, from the northeast corner to the south central portion, traversing Tippecanoe River State Park along the way.

From Downtown Los Angeles, it heads northwest, to Hollywood, through which it travels due west for several miles before it bends southwest towards the ocean.

From Moncton, the highway continues southeast for to a junction at Aulac on the New Brunswick – Nova Scotia border ( near Sackville ) where the Trans-Canada Highway splits into the main route continuing to the nearby border with Nova Scotia as Route 2, and a route designated as Route 16 which runs east to the Confederation Bridge at Cape Jourimain.

From North Sydney, a ferry route, operated by the Crown corporation Marine Atlantic, continues the highway to Newfoundland, arriving at Channel – Port aux Basques, whereby the Trans-Canada Highway assumes the designation of Highway 1 and runs northeast for through Corner Brook, east for another through Gander and finally ends at St. John's, another southeast, for a total of 905 km crossing the island.

From Lake Timiskaming, the river flows southeast to Ottawa and Gatineau, where it tumbles over the Chaudière Falls and further takes in the Rideau and Gatineau rivers.

From 1792 to 1794, George Vancouver charted the Pacific Northwest on behalf of Great Britain, including the Strait of Georgia, the bays and inlets of Puget Sound, and the Johnstone Strait – Queen Charlotte Strait and much of the rest of the British Columbia Coast and southeast Alaska shorelines.

From downtown, El Sereno mountain stands to the southwest ; El Sombroso stands to the southeast.

From its source, the river first flows southeast to Voronezh, then southwest to its mouth.

From 1935 to 1937, the Marion County Park and Lake was constructed southeast of Marion.

From 1987 until 2000 the town was home to Brilliant Homes Ltd. a well known manufactured housing producer in the southeast and parts of the southwest.

From 1880 through 1915 huge waves of immigrants came to southeast Kansas.

From its city center, Haverhill is northeast of Lawrence, southeast of Manchester, New Hampshire, and north of Boston.

From the uplands to the west, rivers and streams cut channels in a generally west to east or southeast direction.

From northeast to southeast, it fronts the Bohai Sea, the highlands of Shandong Peninsula, and the Yellow Sea.

From the Big Spring, the war trail continued south via three branches, one to the southeast through the western part of the Concho country ; one going almost due south, heading for Castle Gap and Horsehead Crossing on the Pecos River ; and one heading west to Willow Springs in the sand country southwest of present Midland, before turning south down the Pecos, all headed ultimately for Mexico.

From there the Divide traverses the McGregor Plateau to the spine of the Rockies, following the crest of the Canadian Rockies southeast to the 120th meridian west, from there forming the boundary between southern British Columbia and southern Alberta.

From 1960 to 2010, San Jose State University operated a flight-simulator facility for its aviation program in buildings at the southeast corner of the airport.

From there it heads southeast, until Milbank.

From Hickory Hills, U. S. 12 / 20 runs east nearly to the Lake Michigan lakefront and then joins with U. S. Route 41, as all three routes travel southeast into the state of Indiana.
