Kroger is perhaps the most nationally oriented supermarket chain in the United States but it has preserved most of its regional brands, including Ralphs, City Market, King Soopers, Fry's, Smith's, and QFC.

* Fry's is named after one of Berkhamsted's most successful Headmasters – Dr Fry.

The Kroger Co., choosing to operate with one brand in the market, rebranded most Arizona Smith's Food & Drug Centers to Fry's Food & Drug Stores, though Smith's Food and Drug Centers in Kingman, Bullhead City, and Lake Havasu City did not change.

The Lutheran Church in America, meanwhile, followed Fry's ecumenical blueprint by merging in 1988 with two other Lutheran groups to form the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, today the largest and most liberal U. S. Lutheran church body.

As a result of the Kroger-Fred Meyer merger, most Smith's Food & Drug Centers in Arizona were rebranded as Fry's Food and Drug.

These were accompanied by several other products: Flake ( 1920 ), Cream-filled eggs ( 1923 ), Crunchie ( 1929 ) ( Crunchie was originally launched under the Fry's name but later adopted by Cadbury's ) and Roses ( 1938 ).

Fry's Marketplace was derived from the Fred Meyer concept but on a smaller scale and has since expanded to Kroger Columbus, Ohio Division and the Smith's Food & Drug Centers Division in Utah.

The Phoenix Fred Meyer store was completed but never opened and was later demolished as the store was too large for Fry's to use.

This includes the Town Center Shopping Center and related developments along Town Center Loop, which includes Fry's Electronics, one of the largest employers in the city.

Fry's first letter, responding angrily to the review, claimed that the Philharmonic had played no pieces by American composers, to which Bristow responded that the Philharmonic had played one piece, an overture he had composed.

Fry's nine-year reign as manager came to an end in May 2005 after they were relegated again, after which time he took up a role as director of football.

Fry's Peterborough United were later the subject of Sky One's 2006 documentary series Big Ron Manager in which Ron Atkinson was bought in as a troubleshooter to help Fry and the management team during Peterborough's quest for promotion.

As it turned out, SMU would be hit with NCAA sanctions five times after Fry's departure before having its program completely shut down for the 1987 season due to a massive litany of misconduct.

Still, Iowa would win its first outright Big Ten title in 27 years and secure Fry's second Rose Bowl berth and a top ten final ranking.
