Barney Bubbles ( born Colin Fulcher, 30 July 1942 – 14 November 1983 ) was a radical English graphic artist whose work encompassed graphic design and music video direction.

In May 1965 Fulcher was recruited by The Conran Group as senior graphic designer alongside Stafford Cliff, Virginia Clive-Smith and John Muggeridge.

The name came about when Fulcher was operating a light show that created a bubble effect by mixing oils and water on projection slides.

Fulcher of Chartres was present at the Council, but his version of the speech was written c. 1100 – 1106 ; Robert the Monk may have been present, but his version dates from about 1106.

Within Fulcher of Chartres account of pope Urban ’ s speech there was a promise of remission of sins for whoever took part in the crusade. All who die by the way, whether by land or by sea, or in battle against the pagans, shall have immediate remission of sins.

One of Ranulf's brothers was Fulcher, who was Bishop of Lisieux in 1101.

Fulcher may have been appointed bishop to enable Ranulf to exploit the see while Ranulf was in exile in Normandy.

There are six main sources of information about this portion of the council: the anonymous Gesta Francorum (" The Deeds of the Franks " dated c. 1100 / 1101 ), which influenced all versions of the speech except that by Fulcher of Chartres, who was present at the council ; Robert the Monk, who may have been present ; Baldric, archbishop of Dol ; and Guibert de Nogent, who were not present at the council.

Fulcher of Chartres ( born around 1059 in or near Chartres ) was a chronicler of the First Crusade, writing in Latin.

Fulcher was part of the entourage of Count Stephen of Blois and Robert of Normandy which made its way through southern France and Italy in 1096, crossing into the Eastern Roman Empire from Bari and arriving in Constantinople in 1097, where they joined with the other armies of the First Crusade.

Fulcher was a resident of Jerusalem until 1127.

At the earliest, Fulcher began his chronicle in the late autumn of 1100, or at the latest in the spring of 1101, in a version that has not survived but which was transmitted to Europe during his lifetime.

This version was completed around 1106 and was used as a source by Guibert of Nogent, a contemporary of Fulcher in Europe.

The third and final book reported on the life of king Baldwin II, until 1127 when there was a plague in Jerusalem, during which Fulcher apparently died.

Writing about the Temple Mount area alone Fulcher of Chartres, who was not an eyewitness to the Jerusalem siege because he had stayed with Baldwin in Edessa at the time, says: " In this temple 10, 000 were killed.

According to Fulcher of Chartres the leaders resolved to maintain the siege until the city was forced into submission.

His 75 max speed and 75 interception skill combination was unmatched, and approached only by David Fulcher and Rod Woodson.

The Gesta was several times rewritten ; in about 1109 by Guibert of Nogent, who added personal information and borrowed from Fulcher and who aimed at a more critical and moral tone ; in about 1110 by Baudri of Bourgueil, Archbishop of Dol, who sought to improve its literary style ; and by Robert of Rheims, whose popular and somewhat romantic version, the Historia Hierosolymitana, appeared in about 1122.

Before he was on television, he played Bob Fossil and was the first choice for the role, however contract limitations between Channel 4 ( Garth Marenghi's Darkplace ) and the BBC ( Mighty Boosh ) saw Rich Fulcher take the role permanently, in The Mighty Boosh stage show.

With Gallagher's retirement in 1982, a the new Bishop George Avis Fulcher was appointed by Pope John Paul II.

Fulcher was born in Massachusetts.

After leaving college in 1963 Fulcher worked as an assistant at the design company Michael Tucker + Associates in London.

" Tucker's studio produced the posters for Hugh Hudson's Pirelli-sponsored film The Tortoise & The Hare ( 1967 ), for which Fulcher designed the poster lettering on a freelance basis.

All versions of the speech except that by Fulcher of Chartres were probably influenced by the chronicle account of the First Crusade called the Gesta Francorum ( dated c. 1102 ), which includes a version of it.

There are five versions of the speech recorded by people who may have been at the council ( Baldric of Dol, Guibert of Nogent, Robert the Monk, and Fulcher of Chartres ) or who went on crusade ( Fulcher and the anonymous author of the Gesta Francorum ), as well as other versions found in later historians ( such as William of Malmesbury and William of Tyre ).

In November 1100, when Fulcher of Chartres personally accompanied Baldwin on a visit to Jerusalem, they were greeted by both Greek and Syrian clerics and laity ( Book II, 3 ), indicating an Eastern Christian presence in the city a year later.

Patriarch Fulcher objected to the marriage on grounds of consanguinity, as the two shared a great-great-grandfather, Guy I of Montlhéry, and it seems that they waited until Fulcher's death to marry.

During his five years at the college Fulcher received a multi-disciplinary education that included training in cardboard design, display and packaging, exploited later in his record sleeve work.

Fulcher also established an association with Justin de Blank, a director at Conran, which blossomed when de Blank left to launch his own upmarket provisions company and restaurant business in 1968.

Between 1965 and 1966 Fulcher organised happenings, parties and other events under the name A1 Good Guyz with two graduates of Twickenham Art College, David Wills and Roy Burge.

In 1967 Fulcher became known as Barney Bubbles, though he did not change his name by deed poll for several more years.

Fulcher, a participant in the First Crusade and chaplain of Baldwin I, continued his chronicle up to 1127.

Aside from these, thereafter there is no eyewitness to events in Jerusalem until William of Tyre, archbishop of Tyre and chancellor of Jerusalem, who began writing around 1167 and died around 1184, although he includes much information about the First Crusade and the intervening years from the death of Fulcher to his own time, drawn mainly from the writings of Albert of Aix and Fulcher himself.

Coincidentally or not, Fulcher of Chartres's version of Urban's speech makes no explicit reference to Jerusalem.
