Marie Gaudin's granddaughter, Gabrielle d ' Estrées, was born in the château and would herself grow up to become mistress to another king, Henry IV of France.

He is buried in the crypt of the Theatinerkirche in Munich near his grandfather Prince Luitpold and great-great-grandfather King Maximilian I, between his first wife Duchess Maria Gabrielle and his oldest son Prince Luitpold.
