Geno's Steaks is a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania restaurant specializing in cheesesteaks, founded in 1966 by Joey Vento ( 1939 – 2011 ).

According to Vento, the name Geno's was chosen because Joe's Steak Place was already in business.

Local restaurants include Geno's 140 Club, The Eagle's Nest, El Mezcal, Airport Restaurant, Lo Cal Cafe, Ge Gee's Cafe, and Roma's Pizza.

The name change is still used by some restaurants, such as Geno's Steaks in Philadelphia and the chain restaurant Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill.

Pat's and Geno's Steaks have a highly publicized rivalry.

" Cheez Whiz is " overwhelmingly the favorite " at Pat's, outselling runner-up American by a ratio of eight or ten to one, while Geno's claims to go through eight to ten cases of Cheez Whiz a day.

Pat's King of Steaks ( also known as Pat's Steaks ) is a Philadelphia restaurant specializing in cheesesteaks, and located at the intersection of South 9th Street, Wharton Street and East Passyunk Avenue in South Philadelphia, directly across the street from rival Geno's Steaks.

Pat's menu is very similar to that of Geno's ; both use thinly-sliced rib eye steak.

Pat's chops up its meat, however, while Geno's does not.

Geno's is located in South Philadelphia at the intersection of 9th Street and Passyunk Avenue, directly across the street from rival Pat's King of Steaks, which claims to have invented the steak sandwich in 1933.
