The thrust of the report was similar to the later Gilligan story, but the key allegations in Watts ' report were described in more measured terms and without Gilligan's claim of the direct personal involvement of Alastair Campbell in rewriting the dossier.

Paley and his wife Babe, along with many network affiliates and longtime fans of Gunsmoke ( which had been airing late on Saturday nights ), to reverse its threatened cancellation, CBS rescheduled the Western to an earlier time slot on Monday evenings at 7: 30 P. M. As a result, Gilligan's Island was unceremoniously canceled at practically the last minute even though the cast members were all on vacation.

So far, there is still no word on releases for Gilligan's Island / Planet, the original Batman animated series, The Tom and Jerry Comedy Show, or the second and third seasons of The New Adventures of Superman.

Robert Osbourne " Bob " Denver ( January 9, 1935 – September 2, 2005 ) was an American comedic actor known for his roles as Gilligan on the television series Gilligan's Island and the beatnik Maynard G. Krebs on the 1959 – 1963 TV series The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.

Today, as part of Time Warner, Turner Entertainment continues to oversee its inherited library, which also includes The Wizard of Oz, A Christmas Story, Gone with the Wind, Gilligan's Island, Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, Top Cat, Huckleberry Hound, Jonny Quest, Space Ghost and Captain Planet.

This storyline theme — marooned in a surreal, fantasy-filled jungle setting, continually attempting to return home — was in this sense somewhat similar to Gilligan's Island and other such TV series.

However, Paley's personal favorite was Gunsmoke ; in fact, he was such a fan of Gunsmoke that, upon its threatened cancellation in 1967, he demanded that it be reinstated, a dictum that led to the abrupt demise of Gilligan's Island, which had already been renewed for a fourth season.
