An important building, the Palazzo Aquila for Leo's Papal Chamberlain Giovanni Battista Branconio, was completely destroyed to make way for Bernini's piazza for St. Peter's, but drawings of the facade and courtyard remain.

He is known for building the new façade of the Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, beginning construction of the Trevi Fountain, and the purchase of Cardinal Alessandro Albani's collection of antiquities for the papal gallery.

At the Villa Madama, in the garden facing the loggia, the Elephant Fountain designed by Giovanni da Udine depicts " Annone ", whose tomb was designed by Raphael himself.

Other noteworthy monuments in the square are the Fountain by Giovanni Carrara, an architect from Bergamo ( 1542 ); the Columns bearing the Venetian Lion and the Statue of Justice ( 1614 ), the statues of Hercules and Cacus and the Statue of Peace ( 1819 ) which was donated to Udine by Emperor Francis I to commemorate the peace Treaty of Campoformido.

In the garden facing the loggia, the Elephant Fountain, designed by Giovanni da Udine, commemorates the Indian elephant " Annone ", brought to Rome by a Portuguese ambassador for the consecration of Leo X in 1514.

Following his notable successes in the competitions for the facade of the Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano ( 1732 ) and the facade of Palazzo Poli behind the Trevi Fountain, Pope Clement XII sent him to the Marche to build some papal projects.

The Acqua Felice also feeds the fountain by Giovanni Battista Soria ( c. 1630 ) at the entrance to the Angelicum's walled garden as well as the fountain under the double stairway below the University's Portineria or porter's lodge before coursing across the Quirinal hill to its terminus at the Fountain of Moses also known as the Fontana dell ' Acqua Felice on one side of the Via del Quirinale.

Doria placed four of his fastest galleys under the command of his nephew Giovanni Andrea Doria who was positioned in the center front, between Gonzaga and the Maltese Knights.

In 1359 Talenti was succeeded by Giovanni di Lapo Ghini ( 1360 – 1369 ) who divided the center nave in four square bays.

His own statue in the center, sculpted by Giovanni Maria Morlaiter, is flanked by representations of Honour, Virtue, Fame and Wisdom.

The arches are decorated with scenes from the life of the saint, including Apotheosis of the saint in the center, Crucifixion, Saint lost at sea, and at left, Baptism of an Indian princess, by Giovanni Andrea Carlone.

The aisles are surmounted by cross-vaults, while the nave has an 18th century coffered ceiling, frescoed in the center by Giovanni Battista Parodi, portraying the Miracle of the Chains ( 1706 ).

The latter sits in the center of Valle San Giovanni, and takes its name, Madonna della Neve ( Our Lady of Snow ), from a legend in which a church was to be erected on the spot where a summer snowfall was to occur.

In 1809 the French Napoleonic forces, who would rule for ten years under the Kingdom of Naples, chose Valle San Giovanni as the center of vast communal territory which included the ex feudal states of Frunti, Valle Piola, Abetemozzo, Borgonovo e Poggio Rattieri.

Galilei also built the more conventionally Baroque façade for San Giovanni dei Fiorentini ( 1734 ), where the cornice between lower and upper stages breaks forward at center and ends, and niches between engaged Corinthian columns and sculptural detail all provide the Baroque light-and-shade.

The facade of the church was added in 1601 by the architect Giovanni Battista Caccini, in imitation of Brunelleschi's facade of the Foundling Hospital, which defines the eastern side of the piazza.

Azzone's successor Gian Galeazzo Visconti further enlarged the piazza, ordering the demolition of the bishop's house ( in 1385 ) and the baptistery San Giovanni alle Fonti ( in 1387 ).

Sometime between 1763 and 1764 Salieri suffered the death of both parents and was briefly taken in by an anonymous brother, a monk in Padua, and then for unknown reasons in 1765 or 1766 he became the ward of a Venetian nobleman named Giovanni Mocenigo ( which Giovanni is at this time unknown ), a member of the powerful and well connected Mocenigo family.

It is possible that Antonio's father and Giovanni were friends or business associates, but this is obscure.

From about 1697 onwards ( La caduta del Decemviri ), influenced partly perhaps by the style of Giovanni Bononcini and probably more by the taste of the viceregal court, his opera arias become more conventional and commonplace in rhythm, while his scoring is hasty and crude, yet not without brilliance ( L ' Eraclea, 1700 ), the oboes and trumpets being frequently used, and the violins often playing in unison.

The episode was often depicted ; notably, in the The Meeting of St Anthony Abbot and St Paul the Hermit by Stefano di Giovanni called " Sassetta ", of two episodic depictions in a single panel of the hermit Anthony's travel to greet the hermit Paul, one is his encounter along the pathway with the demonic figure of a centaur in a wood.

Italian Fascist philosopher Giovanni Gentile in The Origins and Doctrine of Fascism promoted the concept of conflict as an act of progress, stating that " mankind only progresses through division, and progress is achieved through the clash and victory of one side over another ".

The best-known attempt is doubly special relativity, which posits that the Planck length is also the same in all reference frames, and is associated with the work of Giovanni Amelino-Camelia and João Magueijo.

It is also thought that Salvatore Sacco may have been a student of Palestrina, as well as Giovanni Dragoni, who later went on to become choirmaster in the church of S. Giovanni in Laterano.

It is believed Boccaccio was tutored by Giovanni Mazzuoli and received from him an early introduction to the works of Dante.
