Warren Haynes and Allen Woody formed their own side project Gov't Mule in 1994.

Warren Haynes began appearing with the Allmans again in 2000 and rejoined full-time in 2001, while also maintaining his active schedule with Gov't Mule.

During this time the configuration experienced a renaissance of sorts with groups such as Nirvana, Silverchair, Meat Puppets, Violent Femmes, Babes in Toyland, Primus, Hüsker Dü ( and spin off bands Nova Mob and Sugar ), Walt Mink, the Minutemen, Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, Melvins, Fudge Tunnel, Galaxie 500, DC3, Nomeansno, The Presidents of the United States of America, Low, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Killdozer, Cosmic Psychos, Therapy ?, Placebo, Jawbreaker, Bratmobile, Sleater-Kinney, the Screaming Blue Messiahs, Gov't Mule, Morphine ( bass, sax and drums ) and Ben Folds Five ( piano, bass and drums ).

In the post-alternative era, popular trios included Sublime, One Man Army, Alkaline Trio, Green Day, Everclear, The Tea Party, Blink-182, and Gov't Mule.

In 2004, some members of the band did reunite to play " Sometimes Salvation " with Gov't Mule at the 2004 Jammy Awards.

New groups such as Dixie Witch, Blackberry Smoke, Gator Country, Widespread Panic, The Black Crowes, Gov't Mule, Southern Rock Allstars and The Derek Trucks Band are continuing the Southern rock art form.

Haynes is best known for his work as longtime guitarist with The Allman Brothers Band and as founding member of the jam band Gov't Mule.

Haynes is married to Stefani Scamardo, a DJ for Sirius radio and the long-time manager of Gov't Mule.

His style is sometimes compared to that of the Duane Allman, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Lonnie Mack, Gov't Mule, and occasionally Warren Haynes.

Gov't Mule has become a staple act at music festivals across North America, with both its members and frequent guests boasting members from other notable bands, adding various funk and blues rock elements to the band's sound.
