Grant then made a few more albums before dropping out of college to pursue a career in music — Never Alone, followed by a pair of live albums in 1981 ( In Concert and In Concert Volume Two ), both backed by an augmented edition of the DeGarmo & Key band.

Reviews of B-Sides and Rarities were generally good ; Devin Grant of The Post and Courier wrote that " For an album full of odds and ends, this Cake release is every bit as good, and every bit as fun, as the band's previous studio releases ", while Catherine P. Lewis of The Washington Post noted that, although several live tracks reduced the album's strength, " there are still enough charming nuggets to make this album less disposable than the typical rarities compilation ".

The album included the title song, as well as " Lightning in a Bottle ", " If These Walls Could Speak " ( which was recorded by Amy Grant that year ) and " Our Movie ".

Mullins was engaged sometime between the late ' 70's and early ' 80's and had written the song Doubly Good To You ( recorded by Amy Grant on her album Straight Ahead ) for the wedding.
