Upon locating the Dinobots Shockwave firstly engages and defeats Scorponok in battle, and then turns his attentions to Grimlock.

Shockwave opens a space bridge to search the universe for energy to rebuild Cybertron. He soon finds dinosaurs on Earth and later he appllied these forms to a group of Autobots on Cybertron with Grimlock being one of them and calls them Dinobots.

This tale, somewhat concurrent with the Earthforce tales, has Optimus Prime arriving on Earth in response to a distress call from Grimlock.

When the ensuing battle resulted in the malfunction of a teleportation portal, Grimlock, Bumblebee and Jazz found themselves at the core of Cybertron, bearing witness to the visage of Primus, and learned of his legend from the ancient " Keeper ".

Optimus Primal found himself teamed up with War Within Grimlock and Armada Megatron in rescuing captive Cybertronians from Unicron.

He first made his television debut in Five Faces of Darkness when he saved Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Kup, Spike, Arcee, Grimlock and the Aerialbots from the planet Goo.

In " Human Error " ( part 2 ), Grimlock and Swoop appear when a teenaged Sari asks for their help to rescue the Autobots from Soundwave, who wants to reprogram them into serving him.
