Hagler did better, though Leonard's superior speed and boxing skill kept him in the fight.

Durán was the first challenger to last the distance with Hagler in a world-championship bout.

Then came Juan Roldán of Argentina, who became the only man to be credited with a knockdown of Hagler, scoring one knockdown seconds into the fight.

Many people believe this is the fight that gave Sugar Ray Leonard the idea that he could actually win a fight with the aging Hagler.

Hamsho angered Hagler with a trio of intentional headbutts in the second round and a fourth early in the third, goading the normally patient and cautious Hagler into a full-out attack that left Hamsho battered and defensless in a matter of seconds.

Hagler hurt Leonard with a left cross and pinned him in a corner.

Every time Hagler scored, Leonard came back with something flashier, if not as effective.

Leonard responded with a flurry and danced away with Hagler in pursuit.

The fight ended with Hagler and Leonard exchanging along the ropes.

Hearns was named Ring Magazine fighter of the year in 1980 and 1984 and is best known for his fights with Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Roberto Durán.

The fight, however, was allowed to continue at this point, with the ringside commentators remarking on the fact that, " the last thing Hagler wants or needs is for this fight to be stopped on a cut.

" Hagler, despite a cut to the head and being covered in blood, managed to overpower Hearns in the third round after a glancing right hand followed by two more rights and a left, scoring a decisive knockout.

Hearns was able to stun Hagler soon after the opening bell, but he subsequently broke his right hand in the first round.

This grave mistake allowed Hagler to trap Hearns on the ropes, where a crushing right hand by Hagler knocked Hearns down.

Hagler methodically used left jabs and right crosses to bust up Hamsho's face ( which needed 55 stitches ) until the fight was stopped on cuts in the 11th.

Hearns threw his devastating right hand to Hagler's chin, stunning Hagler for a moment before Hagler was able to tie him up in a clinch.

When asked in the ring after the bout if he was hurt by Hearns ' first right hand, a blow that caused him to step back and then fall into a clinch, Hagler commented "... he definitely tried to put the bomb on me ... he can punch ...".

Hagler landed a hard right hook high on Hearns ' head.

In 1762, a small party of Algonquian Shawnee killed the noted Catawba chief, King Hagler, near his own village.

Hagler developed a cut on his forehead, but didn't slow as he pinned Hearns to the ropes and meted out more punishment, eventually hurting Hearns at the end of the round.

By the end of the round, Hagler pinned Hearns to the ropes, successfully landing a volley of punches.

Hagler took his revenge though, brutalizing Roldan over ten rounds and stopping him in the middle of round ten.

The first round of Hagler v Hearns is often considered to be among the best three minutes in boxing in middleweight history as the two fighters stood toe-to-toe trading blows.

Hagler stopped Mugabi in the 11th round of a brutal fight.

After the quick and slick Leonard won the first two rounds on all three scorecards, Hagler started the third round as a southpaw.

Hagler continued to score effectively in round six.

In the final round, Hagler continued to chase Leonard.

This tactic worked fairly well, but in the third round a smiling Hearns turned his back on Hagler after an exchange.

The turning point came in the sixth round, when Hagler landed many heavy blows and staggered Mugabi.

Three years later, he challenged Marvin Hagler for the Undisputed World Middleweight Championship, losing by a knockout in the third round of a very exciting fight.

After Hamsho tried to play rough in the early going, Hagler ended things early this time by flooring Hamsho twice in the third round ( the second knockdown produced by a Floyd Patterson-like hook ), thus forcing Hamsho's trainer to jump in and stop the fight.
