The open-source OS Haiku is designed to start up where BeOS left off.

Haiku is a popular form of unrhymed Japanese poetry, which evolved in the 17th century from the hokku, or opening verse of a renku.

Haiku is also a term of his invention, used for his revision of standalone hokku, with the same idea.

The company is notable for its support of the Haiku OS, providing a port of the 3ivx codec.

LyX is available for various operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, UNIX, OS / 2 and Haiku.

This rescript is said to have been drafted by Reginald Horace Blyth and Harold Gould Henderson, who also contributed to the popularization of Zen and Haiku outside Japan.

The Haiku kernel is a modular hybrid kernel and a fork of NewOS, a modular kernel written by former Be Inc. engineer Travis Geiselbrecht.

This dedication to compatibility has its drawbacks though — requiring Haiku to use version 2. 95 of the GCC compiler, released in 2001, which is now years old.

In some other aspects, Haiku is already more advanced than BeOS.

A compatibility layer is planned that will allow applications developed for Haiku R1 to run on Haiku R2 and later.

On the anniversary day of Kunio's death is held the Santou-Ki Haiku Festival.

The largest anthology of haiku in Japanese is the 12-volume Bunruihaiku-zenshū ( Classified Collection of Haiku ) compiled by Masaoka Shiki, completed after his death, which collected haiku by seasonal theme and sub-theme.

Haiku Jam is a custom fork of Perforce's Jam used by Haiku.

MZX is officially supported on Windows ( Win95 and higher ), Linux, Mac OS X, Wii, GP2X, PSP, and the DS, but has been ported to other platforms such as AmigaOS 4, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, OpenSolaris, Haiku and Android.

yellowTAB has come under some criticism from the BeOS userbase, who claim that the company did not give back what it took from the Haiku project and other open source BeOS projects.

Also at the University of North Carolina, the chapter hosts events open to the community such as " Poetry, Prose and Pancakes " and " Haiku Kung Fu ".

Haiku R1 aims to be compatible with BeOS at both the source and binary level, allowing software written and compiled for BeOS to be compiled and run without modification on Haiku.

In March 2006, yellowTAB donated their " Intel Extreme " driver to one of the Haiku developers for integration into the Haiku source tree where further development was to take place.

Software developers use it to write computer games or other multimedia applications that can run on many operating systems including Android, AmigaOS, AmigaOS 4, FreeBSD, BeOS / Haiku, iOS, Linux, Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, MorphOS, OpenVMS, PlayStation Portable, Syllable, Symbian, webOS, and Windows.

The modular design of BeOS allowed individual components of Haiku to initially be developed in teams in relative isolation, in many cases developing them as replacements for the BeOS components prior to the completion of other parts of the operating system.

Successful ports of Psi were reported for Haiku, FreeBSD and Sun Solaris operating systems.

Haiku ( originally named OpenBeOS ) reached its first milestone in September 2009 with the release of Haiku R1 / Alpha 1.
